Disney Plus glitchy experience

I use Disney+ on a Chromecast with Google TV and Atmos is non-existent. I only get DD+. Netflix sends me Atmos on the same device.

I tried the online chat and the rep told me outright that Atmos is not supported in South Africa. I exclaimed and he then said I should look out for all the new features in June. He also confirmed we do indeed use Hotstar here and not vanilla Disney+
Atmos is on Apple TV

You get 4k and HDR though?

The stream shows 4K selected. It doesn’t seem to be HDR according to my TV when I click the info button on my Hisense. Dolby Atmos is enabled on Apple TV I can confirm.

iPad doesn’t seem to stream in 4K though (1080p Max)

I've be trying to get the Disney plus app on my xbox, but can't seem to find it on the Microsoft store, anyone else manage to get it going on xbox?
Xbox and PlayStation App are currently under development According to their on Twitter. But not sure if that can be trusted.

How are the speeds with VPN? Are there any buffering issues or does 4K HDR with Atmos play fine?
Using a VPN to connect to the American Disney+ requires a separate subscription, with an American Phone number and address.
You cant use the same email account if you subscribed in south Africa.

I just google searched a hotel in New York used their phone number and registered with an alternate email address.
VPN speeds varied, sometimes great sometimes bad, best get a VPN that has dedicated servers in multiple cities in the US, then test for best speeds.

* I cancelled my Hulu and Disney+ subscriptions awhile ago due to the exchange rate and the cost of having a decent VPN with active servers.

Disney works well using Google account that can be changes to a US version payment of Disney+ in dollars using your US google account. If you research well enough, you will see how to do so.Nord VPN still works well

The sad part of all of this is whe D+ lost the plot in providing a substandard streaming experience that will make people either skip it or torrent illegally. I believe from the chat here , that people genuinely want to stream the legal way but not at the price of a substandard service at the US price. People in SA already got alot on the plate. If one looks at Netflix and see how their market share and revenues dropped due to poor content, D+ will follow the same where they threw alot of money at shows with A listed actors but all flops. I think the best streaming service for this year will be no doubt Apple tv plus. Watch this space

On the LG TV App there is a tick indicator when you choose a different profile. When you're on a profile, to switch scroll all the way to the left, then click on the topmost option (My Space), then click on the profile I want in the right hand pane. A 'tick' appears on the active profile picture.

The ATV (4K gen2) app sucks balls!

Same procedure, scroll all the way to the left, then click on the topmost option, then click on the profile in the right hand pane. It's crap 'cos it doesn't give you a visual indicator that it's switched. I only know that it's switched 'cos when I scroll back to the left and click on the Home button, I can see that my last watched item appears when I scroll down in that pane (which is another bugbear - it should appear as the first line in my opinion instead of advertising other shows). Also, the ATV app doesn't present you with a "Series" and "Movies" button - there's only "My Space"; "Search" and "Home".
Watching on a mini PC and a browser, but I will double-check and see if it's the same concept! Shotto.

Yes I get 4K and HDR. Chromecast running through a Denon AVR-X2700H and the input details show HDR10. No idea about Dolby Vision support with my setup as I have a Samsung UA58R7100K which doesn't support DV.

There are no "labels" that show 4K/UHD/HDR etc. as listed under help and support.

Found this article on Saturday. Seemed A little one sided. Personally I’ve never used or even seen the US version of Disney+. So I have nothing to compare to.

Is ours truly that bad in comparison? I can see the issues he speaks about especially on my iPad. Last night I tried watching the “What If” Marvel series and episode 5 and 7 were actually missing (showed up this morning when I checked). I had the Dolby Atmos issues on my Apple TV (conencted via ethernet), sound continuously changing from LPCM to Dolby Atmos.

Can we be optimistic and say these are teething issues that will be fixed in the future?

Is there any reasons we didn’t get the US version of the app?
True. I myself am hoping it is teething issues and it gets better as the year continues. I just hope they take our feedback. This article is quite harsh, I agree. I wouldn't go as far as to say it is "horrible" as the article says. It honestly is just a lot of minor issues that I am nitpicking. When you list them it seems major but you can still watch shows (when the service is up). Content-wise, I am pretty happy, they are just not quite there on the technical side.

Disney is quite capable of going toe to toe with Netflix. They have the financial muscle to roll out the necessary infrastructure. I think though they’re relying on the pull of their content to overcome infrastructure that is just adequate.

If they were offering the service at the discounted price they charge in India, Malaysia and so on people would be more forgiving.

Overall that sounds similar to the Netflix app we use, except it does show which profile is selected. Otherwise their interface is generally awful too. They focus on advertising shows instead of continue watching and the watch list is randomised, constantly changing. They also keep changing the thumbnails to make sure finding something in the list is as hard as possible.

I have the Hisense 58a6g and there is no Disney+ app for Hisense, and also Britbox etc.
The SMART function is apparently Vidaa, yet I have still yet to find Britbox app....even though there is a huge advert for it in the Vidaa Homescreen.
Crazy to think we still have to rely on 3rd Party boxes to get what we want on a 6month old tv

the LG TV app also runs 4K streaming at 80Mbps+, instead of around 25Mbps

I get a lot of stuttering in both the sound and the picture and when I complained this is what I was told:

View attachment 1315782
I had the same issue and still happens from time to time.
What I done was clear cache, force stop the app and go out completely and back in. This worked until the next round of stuttering starts again. Rinse and repeat unfortunately.

This does not happen with Netflix, Amazon or Showmax.
