As the title suggests, I have this problem.

Generally only when running games and about 5min in.
There is tons of info via Google, but I still haven't found a working solution (for me anyway). Just wondering if anyone around here has had a similar issue?

VGA = AMD HD 5970
Tried latest drivers and 5 other versions, with and without Catalyst CP.
Card idles at 40'c and under load goes up to and average of 76'c.

Any input would be appreciative.

yep gpu clocks is unstable , so up volts or lower core clock .

or maybe you bought the gpu from someone that bitcoin the hell out of that thing.
 
This error happened on 2 of my GPU's- people churning out inferior products. The error is far too common
 
Shot dudes!

I tried under-clocking to it's lowest, 550MHz and did bugger all.
Turns out I have to use ATI OverVolt to up the voltages a tad on the VDDC and VDDCI. Seems stable. ^_^

Second question now, anyone have an idea at what temperatures I should be running at 100% GPU load?

Depends on the GPU, but I would say max around 80, 90?

My 6870 gets 40 at idle and around 65 at load.

Man it definitely sounds like that iehighutil.exe

Open your process and check for iehighutil.exe,stop it and empty your temp folder.
