Ditch Google for these alternatives

Google is one of the largest companies in the world, with products and services offered by the tech giant spanning a variety of markets.

It is famous for its search engine and products such as Gmail and Google Drive, as well as its market-leading Chrome browser.

Yea those not worthwhile alternatives there is a reason Google is number one.

BTW, Mega is better than google/dropbox/m$

Onedrive is MUCH better than google drive, trying to GET everyone I know using it now.

1TB included with office subscription... live online office docs editting, it's unbeatable.

Google drive backup and sync software is just constantly frozen and chows CPU when it decides it needs to recheck all your thousands of files!

DuckDuckGo is going to be a noticeable step down for most people, who are used to convenient business cards when Googling for stuff.

If you want to step away from Google, I recommend Microsoft. They're still a Silicon Valley titan but I trust them way more than Google.

The new Edge browser is phenomenal. And the mobile one is great too and has built-in ad blocking. So you get the benefit of Webkit rendering on desktop and Chromium rendering on mobile, without dealing with ads on either platform and retaining access to your bookmarks.

Bing isn't bad if you really want to ditch Google's search engine. I personally find Google way better at everything though when it comes to search.

Office 365 is ridiculous value if you're a Windows user, and will automatically take you out of much of the Google ecosystem:

- Outlook email app
- Office desktop apps, no more need to access Gmail web app or Google Docs
- Microsoft calendar rather than Google Calendar
- Microsoft To Do is the best to-do app I've come across. Totally free, looks awesome, has collaboration features and cross-platform sync
- 1TB OneDrive storage, no need for Google Drive or Google Photos

I concur. I love OneDrive and the way it integrates with Windows 10. Upload speeds used to be a deal-breaker, but that was fixed early 2018 if I recall. I get max upload speed now for ages.

Mega is better than dropbox.

Why is Mega better? Unlike all mainstream cloud storage providers, Mega places a bandwidth cap on all accounts equal to the size of the account.

It could well be because those users were using a free account, but every time I download a shared file from Mega the download speed sucks balls.

Also, for the same monthly price, Microsoft will give you 1TB OneDrive storage plus all the latest Office apps.

for free 50gb, mega is pretty good for personal use
Yes, but I don't trust Kim Dotcom with my personal data. The guy is about to be extradited from New Zealand to the US to stand trial on charges related to racketeering and copyright infringement from the Mega Upload days. That's the kind of service that could have its plug pulled at any time.

What is this? A Google alternative for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to use alyernativez if they can’t even fit inside the building?

I agree with Bryn. I use the "Chredge" (Chromium-based) browser on all my systems and devices. It's absolutely bloody marvellous.

And, for my search needs, I find no real difference between Google and Bing. Quite often, when in a group and a number of people consult the web to get answers, I find relevant links and info that everyone else misses because they use Google.

My Android phone has absolutely minimal Google - all I need is the Play store, and Maps for now. With the Msft Launcher I've hidden all the other Google stuff.

This year I might well move away from smartphones altogether. The only reason is to escape Google and Apple. Just waiting for a 7-8 inch Windows tablet, ideally running WoA and with LTE. Will then switch to a dual-SIM feature phone and carry the Win tablet in my manbag. I deeply resent Google's monitoring and intrusion, and its close relationship with Surveillance States all over the world. And Apple just isn't an option for me.

I've used dropbox for years. It's worked well for me.

Three issues I have with it:
  1. The are about to push the price up 20%, which is certainly a wake-up call not to get dependent on one solution.
  2. You can't use more than one profile at once (you can change logins in browser, but can't keep the offline files in explorer for more than one profile
  3. It's always trying to upgrade me with irritating, intrusive adverts, even though I'm a paying customer

I absolutely hate MS and only use it because my clients use it

Onedrive is so intrusive when you don't want to use it as primary cloud source. It always appears and tries to default.

What a terrible article. Yahoo uses Bing results so why recommend both? Opera was hacked before so not sure why it's on the list. Dropbox el al is also not better rather recommend cloud storage with encryption like pCloud or the newcomer icedrive.

Thought you hated China?

In July 2015, Dotcom said he does not trust Mega service in a Q&A session with tech website Slashdot, claims the company had "suffered from a hostile takeover by a Chinese investor who is wanted in China for fraud"

He isn't a part of Mega for a few years now already.

Clearly Google isnt paying MYBB their "protection fee". You will never find a ditch Afrihost article for example
