Diversity & Inclusion Training

I had to attend this schit.
"Distinguishing between Fair & Unfair Discrimination in terms of Law"
So i said to the dude presenting that AA is discrimination. Answer: No....it's fair discrimination.
Then you get lunch and go beat some drums to "connect" with each other. Horseschyte workshop.

This is going to get interesting, I will have to choose my words carefully.

And then they put you in groups, give you the scenario of an island without people and who you will choose to go with to start a civilization. It's all about workplace integration. See if you're left or right of the regime.

I guess forever alone is not the correct answer.

I've done it before, wasn't so bad. Ours was more around being aware of the different people and interests in your team. So when doing a team build or whatever try mix it up - don't always do go karts if you've mostly guys in your team, and don't always do massages if you've got mostly women; yeah people must try new things but that must cut both ways.
Don't mock religion A because you belong to religion B.
Mostly just being aware that the people you work with might be different to you and respect that.
General stuff like that.

HR had that chat with me. They told me don’t EVER do massages.

That sounds reasonable and although I view it as common sense, I am sure many out there don't think this way.

So, we had the training last week, which was more of a workshop than training. It was interesting, a lot of difficult conversations had, opinions expressed, etc. I struggled with some of the workshop as I am an introvert combined with being a technically minded person, so find it difficult to express myself properly at times. I am glad it didn't turn in to a 'Death by PowerPoint' session and I didn't have to listen to anyone trying to convince me about some or other political correctness or SJW BS.

did they bombard you with PC words like somebody fat called, horizontally challenged and somebody too tall called vertically challenged?

I wonder if you dealt with the Financially challenged part of it?

There were some PC terms used, mainly around sexual orientation but with a lot of older people in the workshop the terms gay and lesbian were used quite often. It didn't look like anyone was triggered although there was some underlying dissatisfaction by a number of people relating to how they are treated at work.

Diversity and inclusion is all BS.

Yes and no, it was interesting hearing everyone's backgrounds, how they got to where they are today, what makes them the person they are, why they behave that they do, etc, etc. The workshop was more about understanding difference than forcing some PC BS about the make up of our employee basket. I am glad it also didn't get to the point where I had to defend me being me although I couldn't keep quiet about my feelings regarding how white males are targeted unfairly in general these days.

Anyone who dismiss this topic from the outset without attending one of these from a reputable service provider is rather ignorant. We all come from different backgrounds and challenges in life. This provides an opportunity for us to learn from each other and be more tolerant with each other. Some need intolerance though. In my own case I am yet to meet a person in my workplace that faced the challenges I had growing up. In my line of work we have a direct impact on the environment around us in decisions we take. Yet when I highlight my experiences for some they dismiss it outright where they can actually learn from it. This might be because they have never experienced it and therefor do no understand what I am talking about. This is where the diversity training comes into play.

Watch Penn & Teller's Bullshit! episode titled 'Sensitivity Training' for a good laugh.
