Scuba - I had to insure my equipment separately. I think it came to 80k? But I went the whole hog. Used to be able to dive for free in Europe. Now in SA my equipment is all stored away :-(

Just to add to all the other replies - you don't have to have your own equipment. You can hire everything. Can also buy in stages. First mask+snorkel, wetsuit, fins, and so on.

I don't own anything at the moment. Hired equipment when I did my license and for a couple of subsequent dives. Then did some dives overseas, where hiring and so on was even cheaper (eg. Thailand)
