Yep, have an LG DVX-173 and it plays every DivX/Xvid I've thrown at it. Occasionally vids stutter a bit or loose voice sync, but a quick rewind usually solves. Only restriction is res cant be higher than 720 x 576.Just wondering if anybody knows if these generally also play Xvid etc, and whether there's much difference between DivX and DivX Ultra.
True most low end one like my LG only support DivX 3-5, however I've found little 'content' that is encoded in 6 or greater. Most of these dvd-players suffer when it comes to playing Divx 6.0 stuff (the hardcoded one seems to be a divx5 codec)
My LG has no problem playing mp3 2.0 & AC3 5.1 soundtracks embedded in the DivX.Also some of the latest stuff come combined with a different mp3 codec. So the movies either don't have sound at all or slip up every now and then.
Depending on manufacturer the low end models only cost R350-R700, so its not too unreasonable to upgrade every year. I'd much rather watch slouched on the couch with the remote than fiddle with the PC, especially when writing a full DVD+R only takes ~ 8min.Unless u are going to buy a new divx player/dvd player every year. Its gonna be useless.. and a waste of money
