Decided to start a thread for the DIY/handyman enthusiasts, household hints also welcome.
Every now and again i get a strange urge to play with power tools, and i am sure there are others out there who enjoy the same.
So for my first major project, i decided to rip out a cupboard in my study, and turn the space into my PC corner.
Gained more space in the room, by removing necessity for a desk.
Simply took the doors off, removed the shelving, and used the doors to make the desktop, with a sliding flat drawer for my keyboard and mouse.
Left a gap on the back side for the cables to run up to monitor and speakers
Main cost involved 2 drawer sliders:

Anybody else with nice ideas or projects on the go?

Cables. What to do with cables? Cables. Cables. Cables.

Why do we need cables? Can't we transmit electricity through the air? God does it with lightening.

Nice, but would have looked much better with a closed cupboard door.

Just joking. Well done.

Wherever possible, i run them behind cupboards, under carpets, however with some i just run them loose along the skirting, so if i choose to move my PC into the loung/dining room, i can still be online, and watch TV at the same time :o

Some people are never satisfied :D

Considered that, however the door would have to open out against the wall, and it would have had to be a single door, the cupboard in question had split doors, that opened left and right, would have felt like a cubicle.

Yeah a big door that opens against the wall would hide that nicely. Looks like all those pc's don't quite fit in there though.
Builders warehouse actually has a nice diy tips section on their website. Various projects etc. Quite nice for inspiration.

scale is not quire right, but here is a quick draft on how you get rid of wires

Nice job....

I'm contemplating doing something similar myself but there is no way i can fit everything into a single cupboard for my PC.

Ok, aside from the seriously impressive carpentry projects, is there anyone in the house with plumbing experience? My kitchen tap strips a rubber o-ring every month and then leaks. This is the lower of 2 rings at the base of the spout. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong when I replace the ring.

Very nice, I've built my TV cabinet myself and a bookshelf. Will post pictures later

I recently started with repainting the kids' tables and chairs. This is what the first table looks like, it just still needs a coat or two of varnish

You may need to replace the whole tap, sometimes the base becomes corroded and then the o-ring will never seat properly

not always .... you get a reseating kit to cut the base of the inside of the tap where the rubber seat fits... and thereafter you can drop in a plastic seat so everytime it wears off you can just replace the plastic seat.

Thanks, I'll read that in detail!

Note that I'm referring to the opening where the spout is fitted into a "mixer" bit between the hot and cold taps. Even after I'd assembled a replacement spout (with 2 O-rings plus a white plastic ring, held down by a big nut), the spout wobbles a bit when it's turned horizontally. I'll take some pics later, but here's an ASCII sketch:

...........//....... -(opening of spout)
..........||........ -(spout)
..........||........
[tap]=[[]]=[tap] -(taps and base where leak occurs)

:p
