DIY wifi aerial boosters

I'd like to get a stock wifi aerial to give a couple more metres' range. Router/modem is a cheapie SMC.

Any good DIY methods? :cool:

Stick it in the ceiling, which should allow it to get over, rather than through the walls / Place a mirror behind it / try different channels.

Please explain the mirror - i've never heard of that before...

A mirror has a silver coating which partially reflects some of the em waves/signal. Actually any sheet of metal will do. And if is parabolic,with the aerial at the focus point, is even better. My advice is: If you really need distance (up to a few km depending on circumstances),switch to wimax. Just set it in to connect 'wifi styl' and you'll never look back.
 
It's only going ±30m at the moment. It reaches a few metres into one of the rooms I'm trying to sort out, but then about 2m away on the bed it loses signal. :D

So just wanting to try and mod the stock router/aerial.
 
Get a better antenna for your router. It costs about R200 or so. Prophecy and Sybaritic sells them online, some but not all computer retailers will have them.

Ja... But I was hoping there'd be a DIY way since it's such a small distance. Will try the mirror I guess :D... And try moving the router as close as possible.
