DJI Spark Drone

As for the other points, you're getting nitpicky.

Nitpicky?

You're shifting your goalposts... as you said;

Explain - What doesn't it do?
It does everything its big brother does.

All the features I listed missing from the Spark, are the ones I use on the Phantom and Inspire. That's why I also didn't consider the Mavick.

The Spark is a fantastic little drone for the hobbyist, but it is by no means able to do what its bigger brothers do.

Nah, you're misquoting, by missing the end -

"Can't think of anything major that the Mavic does that the Spark doesn't."

I still stand by what I wrote :p. Can hopefully play with mine finally this weekend, finally.

Quality of the footage Spark vs Mavic Pro no contest, the Mavic smashes the Spark out the park.

Wonder how the Gopro drone footage is vs the Spark?

So, the big question while the elephant is in the room, has anyone bypassed the 300 meter range limit due to the CE (EU) regulation we in the SA (EU) region find ourselves? This is a fantastic little drone and I so want to buy one but the limited range is a real issue for me. Even the Mavic Pro and Phantom 4 has this limitation albeit about a kilometer and a half range, and this is only due to the bigger antennas these drones have. The power output of CE regions is ≤20dBm (while FCC is ≤26dBm). This limitation is automatically set in these drones via the GPS location.
Look forward to hearing what others say/have done.

isnt it possible to load a aftermarket firmware onto the drone?
I sure somebody must have tried to do that by now....

maybe a simpler drone is a better idea sometimes...

That is what I am hoping to hear from someone in SA that has done this. There is aftermarket hacked firmware that can be loaded, but also reports of bricking the drone. I don't want an expensive brick

I have flown my Phantom 4 almost 6km out on stock antennas using the DJI Go app, so it is definitely not limited to 1.5km.

Google "dji spark fcc hack" and you will get videos & sites with the details. Record seems to be just over 4km range.

 wow if you flew it in SA consider this not the norm and very lucky :o

I've flown my Phantom about 2.8km from me and at that point just shat myself and flew it back to me (still had good signal and battery).

That was about 6 months ago. There is a new firmware that I have chosen to just ignore so maybe that applies this limit?

To be honest though even 1.5KM is plenty. Very seldom do I fly mine more than 500m away.

I am hoping someone reading this thread has hacked their Mavic or Spark with the FCC region who can provide feedback. I am really worried about brick in such an expensive item.

I missed out on Black Friday. Think of getting Spark bundle from Amazon US. Does anyone know if there will be any regulatory issues with importing a drone to SA wrt frequency regulations (ICASA?). I don't want my package blocked at customs.

Thanks

Some places still have decent prices. For things like that I'd rather buy it here and be assured that I've got a local store covering the warranty for most things.
