DJs Threads

Producing: Ableton Live/Cubase
Dj'ing: Ableton Live

:D

I like Traktor but setting up my Xone 4D is extremely time consuming because you have to map each midi controll through the midi properties and end up just downloading a template anyways. Ableton's Midi learn is the bomb, just click learn, turn or press whatever you want assigned and presto. Not too mention you can adjust maximum and minimum values on each controll.

Am pretty much the same, minus the Cubase. Finally managed to route Traktor through the loopback on a saffire pro 14 and into ableton

Anybody got one of these Maschines?:

I want to buy this thing but can’t really figure out what makes it different or more special than any other sample pad controller.

I doubt that I would use it straight when producing but rather as dj hardware.

If it as in the picture (with pad lights on) then I'd say it seems good. Most pad controllers only light up once you actually hit the pad, which will be a problem if your DJ'ing in dark clubs/parties. Look at some youtube videos of people using it, if the pads do stay on then I'd say go for it

I know in ableton you can setup controller scripts that keep pads on. I found one on the interwebs for my apc40 that keeps the pads on and changes it to note mode.

Virtual DJ 7 and Numark Mixtrack Pro, I'm still gonna try incorporate my MIDI keyboard to handle 4 Decks
I've started using Virtual DJ recently, and still teaching myself how to get around, keyboard shortcuts etc but quite like it so far...

As for NuMark Mixtrack Pro... Never seen it before. At what point do you use this instead of Virtual DJ?

PS: I'm very new to the whole mixing via software etc, so bear with me ;)

The Mixtrack Pro is DJ software controller, so I control Virtual DJ (or another DJ software) with the Mixtrack Pro

Pretty awesome midi controller that, very similar in compactness to the Vestax typhoon, apart from the stupid fader EQ on the typhoon that is. Also have extremely accurate jog sensitivity and doesn’t drift. Numark is really starting to show pioneer the finger in regard with pricing. It has really come too that point where a decent audio interface, laptop and mixing console costs why cheaper than something like a single CDJ 2000. WTF pioneer?

Anyways for those who love Dubstepness here's a 38 min mix I made a while ago:

I'm more of a House/IDM fan but like to take on any challenge ;). Been working a lot more on producing lately.

Aaah i see... Thanks :)

Is it possible to make anything decent just using Virtual Dj and keyboard shortcuts or does one need something like the Mixtrack Pro? I'm just getting into this for fun and something to do after working hours, so i wanna keep it as cheap and simple as possible for now and if i really get into it, then look at getting all the extras from there...

I'm very into house music (Deep/ Tech/ Minimal/ Funky) and have a rather good knowledge of what the banging tracks out there are... Alot of my mates come to me to suggest songs to add into their mixes and playlists for them... But nobody has ever quite showed me HOW TO mix and make mix sessions etc... so finally i've decided to start teaching myself as i genuinely think i could make some pretty decent mixes

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

For starting out, yeah you can do it with keyboard. It will get your started and accustomed to the layout.

Brilliant! Thanks Tsume, appreciate the input!

On a side note: Have any of you ever considered uploading a mix to Ultamix@6?

So here is this weeks mix.
It came as a request from Rosaudio to make a Drum and Bass mix, since I don't have that much Drum and Bass music I had to make due with most of the songs being Dubstep

I tried to upload it onto Soundcloud but it got taken down cause the first song contains copyright material.
