DMX

Hi, what type of DMX controllers/interfaces are the mobile DJs using? We're a few DJs working together/sharing jobs and use some DMX-enabled lighting equipment (lasers, dimmer packs, strobes, etc) and we're thinking of using DMX to ease setup and have more fun with the lighting effects. I've been looking at the Enttec DMX USB Pro (http://www.enttec.com/index.php?main_menu=Products&prod=70304&show=description) with some open source software to control the lights, which can be ordered for about R1700.

My standard audio setup:
Denon MC6000 & Sennheiser cordless mic
Traktor 2 LE on Dell i3 notebook with SSD
Backup: Celeron 900 netbook with Winamp and external soundcard
Speakers: 2x JBL PRX515 + 2x JBL PRX518S bins (as needed)

So I'm in need of USB/MIDI mixing console, one which is really good but won't blow my wallet.
What are you suggestions?

Where can I find a second hand mixing console?

My friend was about to sell he's one for R1.8k to upgrade, but then it got water damaged. Not sure about the specs right now. But think it was just under R3k new. I'll ask and update. But he should know cheaper too. Its his profession, so he knows more about this stuff than me.

take a look at the denon mc3000?
it should be reasonable considering its two channel.. the 4 channel goes for 8k?

im sure you should be able to get hold of a ****rol s4 as well at a decent price, since theres a new version out, and stores will still have old stock

whats your budget?

seems like a good thread to vent tho :)
getting gigs in this country is incredibly frustrating if you dont know the right people
i've pretty much given up, promoters/club owners are probably flooded with demos from people, so the odds of them even listening to yours are slim

Psytrance, full on and psybient, mostly on Traktor and a bit of virtual DJ.
Nice! I've heard good things about Traktor, but haven't actually used it...

I've recently got FL10 and am now starting to teach myself how to make my own tracks on it... Previously i also used Virtual DJ and used to play Minimal/Tech House. Never got round to actually getting myself a decent setup as i only do this in my spare time as a hobby (if i can call it that...)

What happened to you, I replied in the Musician's thread, and you just never came. :(

Budget...real starter, so I dont know how much I should consider as cheap but good. Think 3K should be enough
I've never had a proper look at USB mixing consoles, so I'm hoping people here can steer me in the right direction.

you'll need atleast 6k-8k for something decent, unless you settle for cheap and nasty, like hercules
look at native instruments kontrol s4, and the denon mc3000

its an expensive hobby :(

If you can afford those more expensive controllers then go for it, but unless you're after the 4 channels extra I doubt there is much difference in sound quality and functionality between the lower priced budget controllers.

The Numark Mixtrack Pro is decently priced and is a damn fine controller, same for some of the Geminis like this one >> http://www.soundz.co.za/pGEMI-CTRL7/Gemini-CNTRL-7-USB-MIDI-DJ-Controller-with-Soundcard--NEW.aspx

I agree it is pretty expensive in the beginning, once you have the controller, a decent set of monitor speakers, headphones etc etc :) But its damn good fun ++

For entry level Numark Mixtrak pro without a doubt. It the best entry level controller.Goes for R2500 or so,if you are in CT,Frontline (in Maitland) can do for roughly R2200.

The MC3000 do 4 channels through the software,if you really need it.

Stay far away from anything Gemini and Hercules.
