I do love the Pioneer range, but as you say... It's a little pricey for me! Will look at reloop and Numark. Any shops you can recommend?

Mixmeister - Just add your tracks to the timeline and export to 1 long file or with markers,so if you burn it to cd it is non stop but you can change tracks.It's not free but obtainable from torrents or usenet,if you feel comfortable with that.:)

Hi Biggie, Thanks for the suggestion, but i dont really want to just have a software merge tracks together... I'd like to play with loops and effects etc while mixing tracks... Just seems a little more legit for me :)
 
Lovely thread, i learn t alot by reading your opinions on mixers.

Im definitely going with either the Numark or Gemini mixer in the R2500 range at Musica.

Sorry for a derail, but knowbody talks about speakers.

Im going back to the Karaoke DJ arena and i will NEVER buy Cash Crusaders Dixon brand, but i am looking for really affordable 15' DJ speakers.
Preferably active speakers as im not employing a helper to help me load equipment, or mismatch the eaquipment but getting an amp not made for the speaker i intend to purchase.

Somebody on here gave this link for DJ equipment and i took a keen interest on these speakers:

Phone that same store and speak to Dave he'll give you the best advise with regards to speakers

Would also stay clear of anything labelled gemini

I have heard qtx passive speakers before.They are not bad for an entry level product.However,i don't think active is the way to go here.

1 With active all your controls are at the back of the speaker,unless you'll be using an external mixer.BTW,the one in your link only has tone control on your mic.
2 Most active speakers don't have fans but just a heatsink.If you overdrive them,the amp shut down for protection.I know people that had to carry a desk fan with them,even with more decent ones.


I would suggest,for portability,get a mixer with built-in amp and passive speakers.Be careful though,most entry level ones are mono.

You'll still have to look at what you're wanting to get out of the gadget you're wanting. If all you need is to just mix tracks via a software program, then yes, this would be fine, just as tsume has pointed out.

However, you have a comment about wanting to play with loops and all sorts of other things, then you're really needing to do a lot more research as to what gadget does that for you. I know that the Pioneer, ReLoop and Numark stuff has features like that at their higher model controllers, so there is a start. But what you've shown in the link, is just to mix tracks. Simple.

I'm not sure I'm hearing the suggestion here. Demon Angel wants to do Karaoke, and we're busy advising them on what to or not to consider, without knowing fully what their set up consists of or how big/small it needs to be. This is a bit odd. In Demon Angel's post, they ask about an active speaker, which can easily work for many different type of applications and also be very portable. So even the QTX (or even EONs for that matter) would be fine for this, depending on how they intend to use them.

Being advised to look for a "mixer with a built in amp" (what type of mixer would that be exactly?) is strange to me, when you're considering a solution that effectively has an amp in it (active speaker). And whether any speaker or amp runs hot (or not) depends on various things. The make / brand quality. The setup you're using them in. And how much you abuse (or don't) the speakers. There's no general rule that applies to ALL (or even most of) active speakers that they'll "run hot" and you need a desk fan. I've used EON (the first series) for many events and have had never needed a single desk fan in the vicinity.

So Demon Angel, if you can maybe elaborate on what equipment you have currently, and how you use it, and why you're considering active speakers, it would be better to give advice that way.

True,he asks about actives,he mentioned portability.I never said actives would not work,i said actives is IMO not the best way to go,especially the price point he is aiming at.

Powered mixer.And the reason i've suggested is for various reasons:

1) It still gives you portability.Amp is still built-in but heat dissipation is way better with ventilation holes and fans.
2) It gives you decent bass,treble control plus effects like reverb on mics.Important,he did say he'll do karaoke.
3) It gives you options for more mics.Again,with karaoke in mind.Duets

Amps do run hot,that's normal.How to manage that heat should be your concern.I did specifically mention overdrive.

I never said that.Heat thing is a no brainer.I'm not against actives but if i ever bough an active it would be a decent high end one with better heat protection.Heat is the no1 enemy of any amp.

It is free advise.He can still buy active speakers,it's his decision.But i think he would want to know pros,cons,other options,anything that can help him making a better decision.

I’m also a aspiring DJ been collecting music for years, being using Virtual dj for a while now and would like to get a me some equipment, as soon as i saved enough
made a mix if any of you would care to download, mostly deep house, have some electro fidget mixes if anybody wants.
