DLINK and Cybersmart...plz HELP!

I recently bought a dlink 2640U after my old mecer router from cybersmart apparently stopped working(this was after the telkom techie came for the second time to fix the line and the apparent culprit was the modem).

Now this afternoon I have tried to setup my cybersmart username and password with the router but my 33 character username is apparently too long as.it doesn't fit in the window for the dlink....?

Any other cybersmart users with the same modem/make of modem...?

I have been without adsl for the past 2 weeks now and Im super frustrated.
Any suggestions plz...
 
What does the cybersmart helpdesk say? If they cannot help you, tell them you will cancel your account with them and move over to somebody else. This usually leads to a quick resolve of the problem.

And if they can't help you, cancel your account and move over.

Or else, cancel your account, and apply for another one, with a shorter user name.

Are you using the web interface or the software supplied with the router for configuration?

I have heard of this issue with d-link before and as far as I can remember there is a workaround out there.

Thanks ponder thats what I was hoping to hear. I used the software which gave me the problem. I ve gone into the web interface but I don't know where to look or where to go to change it :confused:

@Libs: Thats how I feel ,but Ive had very good service from Laurie. Its just these last few weeks that have been frustrating. The supervisor for the techies however needs to develop some fscking people skills.
 
if its simply the web interface that doesn't allow more than 32 characters, then you can use Firebug (in Firefox) to modify the maxlength field of the D-Link's Username field in its web interface :)

No it wasn't the web interface. I don't know where to change the username/password in the web interface....?

Should be somewhere under the WAN or PPPoE configuration on the Advanced Setup tab. Alternatively use the Quick Setup tab.

Thanks bud. Found it under Wan settings. Im finally posting from my PC for the first time in 2 weeks :)
 
Just bridge the router and dial the connections from windows/linux whatever OS you are using. Much better. Each pc gets their own ip too. cybersmart allows 4 pppoe connection to be made from the same line.
 
Having the same issue with the same modem but with my Afrihost username. Gets to <myname>@afrihost.co but it doesn't fit the .za. Glad to see there is a workaround. Been looking for the right place to change my login details in the web interface. This is the worst designed interface I have come across in a router. The wizard has several options where you have to "Chick to Select." I thought maybe a woman has to do the setup to get it to work. :p

Yeah I found it under WAN. Just click EDIT for the existing setting and then keep on selecting NEXT until you get to the username/password fields. There doesn't seem to be any limits there :)
