Since Friday I am having an issue on my laptop when initially connecting to wifi networks and /or switching between wifi networks.

--> DHCP IP address and gateway does not update until I troubleshoot connect or ipconfig /release /renew.

Not sure if an update is causing this or a problem with the wifi card.

Lenovo X1 Carbon (2016 version) purchased new from Lenovo (US) in January this year (2018).

Anyone else having this issue?

ADSL connection on a 10.0 network fed into a Smoothwall running a 192.168 network. Always connecting to WiFi inside the Smoothwall network.

WiFi on the same subnet as me. Using the Smoothwall as the DCHP/DNS server, being fed by the ADSL router.

I sometimes switch to WiFi on my phone to send big emails, as the upload on ADSL is only 1mbps.

IP not auto-updating as usual when on the Smoothwall network, or Ad-hoc network from phone, or home LTE - yellow triangle / no internet access.

Troubleshooting or leaving the connection alone for a while and it seems to resolve the IP issue.

Only seem to be having this issue since Friday.

Windows 10 has a setting for fast switching between networks. Keep it off. HP has their own solution, probably Lenovo too, it can interfere.

And yes, check Smoothwall for DHCP relaying and IP range pool, it could be overlaping. You don't say in which mode DSL router works, so I can't say more.

From what I can see, problem appears to be that IP settings remain as per last wifi network connected to and is not updating automatically from new networks DCHP service.

So IP/Gateway/DNS server are still whatever the last connected network was (even after a reboot).
