Anyone else having to refresh sites (2 or 3 times sometimes) they are trying to visit while using the iburst provided dns because you get the error that the site doesn't exist? (even www.ibm.com)

I've spoken to the meagerly equipped support desk and the best they could offer me was to turn off or add sites to my local firewall trusted zone? Are they mad? I end up using my laptop on lots of different networks and only have the problem with them.

Anyway, maybe if enough people have the same (poor) experience as me then maybe they'll get their but in gear to fix it.

Welcome to the iBurst support desk...
Funny that they didn’t ask you about your MTU settings.

Try those DNS settings given they make a world a difference.

:confused:Sweet Mary... tho' it might work, it's only a little less dodgy than making firewall changes. (If you want the best alternative I'd have thought uunet/verizon would be your best bet for the least overhead to latency?)

I'm not really looking for alternatives, I'd like to see something done to fix those services offered... or at least admit there is a problem - that would be a nice start don't you think? Or am I expecting a bit much?

If it's from iburst then yes you're expecting a bit much.:rolleyes:

Hmmmm, could everyone who agrees that they think DNS is poked please reply here? I'll print it and take it down to their office and let "Big Joe" do some Italian convincing... or am I wasting my time?

You’re wasting your time. That’s why most of us have left iBurst for better and cheaper services.
But you can always try, they will most probably just ignore it like they do with most complaints or deny that a problem exists.

Blast; I guess that's what you get for living in SA. I'm guessing you've never tried getting Telkom to do anything for you that you think iBurst is so terrible. Still I think it's worth a try, I'd feel better about slating them if I've been ignored myself.:)

i dont really get any dns problems with iburst. once in a while sometimes at night it seems they do some kinda of reboot cuz for about 10 minutes nothing goes anywhere. msn dies, websites can not be found... but it comes right.

me thinks u should check your MTU settings :D

joke.

Dns

It happens to me a lot. At least once or twice a week I end up with the "Server not found" message. Usually takes about 24 hours before I can access those sites again. But the moment I use a proxy or another ISP, they load just fine.

Ticks me off cos some of those sites are my own sites that I need to administer via their online control panels.

I am getting the exact same error and it is pissing me off now and I get it alot and every day now, errors like "This page cannot be found" "The page cannot be displayed" and server errors and also sometimes slow speed

Where does one enter these settings?

On XP:

1. START > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS

once there, you should see IBURST under the 'Broadband' heading

2. Right-click your IBURST icon, select PROPERTIES

3. Select the NETWORKING tab

4. Select INTERNET PROTOCOL TCP/IP, and then click the PROPERTIES button

5. Choose USE THE FOLLOWING DNS SETTINGS

6. Enter the DNS settings as above

7. Restart your iBurst connection.

DONE.

(Note: This is if your iburst modem is connected via lan or usb. You must have created the connection manually, NOT USING THE DASHBOARD.
For a Router, see your instruction manual for the DNS settings tab.)

Well Mr H you gotta give iBurst some credit, although it's a slow start they did something about their mail servers (eventually, after three years) - hopefully their DNS servers are next, then perhaps securing their network against outside attacks and then just maybe they will supply a little bit more bandwidth and also relax their shaping policy, nah it's a bit much - ok you win.

Michael, the only way iburst(the system) will function as it was intended to is if it is run by a competent company, and right now it is been run by greedy unqualified morons who have no idea how to handle the system or their customers.

It is a great pity since when I was with iburst my connection must have been one of the best out of the members that post in this forum, but it bothered me very much dealing with "that" company as I have stated many times before.

Thanks LF. Went to the site and it seems that one has register and has to use a username and password to use the system. How does this impact on the settings as described above?
