Do cheap Cell C data bundles work through Vodacom-CellC towers?

Could someone pse confirm what my local Cell C shop says is the case: that even though our local Cell C coverage is delivered through a Vodacom (3G-HSDPA) tower in our fairly remote area, the R1499 promotional bundle of a modem plus 12 x 2GB of data monthly for a year will in fact work perfectly well?

If this really is the case, I can't understand why there's not a stampede for this offer even from areas which do not have the new high-speed Cell C towers -- these data bundles massively undercut VC and MTN, at about R110 for 2GB each month, roughly speaking if you deduct the value of the modem.

It was first said that this special offer would only work from dedicated Cell C towers, but my local shop now insists this is not the case: "Wherever there is a Cell C signal, even if it is delivered from a Vodacom tower, you will get your 2GB of data monthly, for the all-in price you have paid for a year up-front...." Is this really true?

what he isn't telling you is that you will only get EDGE speeds while connected to a Vodacom tower.....

Didn't know that. Well, you are still going to have cheaper bandwidth with a Cell C package. Go for it if you don't mind the slower EDGE speed.

I am not sure its usable. I get a Cell C EDGE connection on my stick however the speeds are very bad. I can barely open google unfortunately. I get max speeds of 50kbps down and 10kbps up. I could be doing something wrong though. And perhaps in Rustenburg the EDGE speeds are better.

So if I've got this right, even though my local VC tower on which Cell C piggybacks is HSDPA-capable (and I get 3G speeds or better from it using a VC sim), I will only get EDGE speeds with the Cell C sim? That's definitely a bummer to make one think again.... Especially when added to user comments about poor server performance, interruptions and dropped data.
