Do i buy a present at proposal dinner?

Yep, it is a private matter and deserves the question asked while in private. Asking over a dinner in front of other people is so cliche!

Agree completely. Its something to share together and not with every person you know.

Old definition:A cliché is a saying, expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, rendering it a stereotype, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel.

The term is frequently used in modern culture for an action or idea which is expected or predictable, based on a prior event. It is likely to be used pejoratively.

A cliché may sometimes be used in a work of fiction for comedic effect.

I have been invited to a dinner. The person is going to propose to his girl friend. Is one suppose to buy a present for them?

Convince the person who invited you, that this is really, really not the way marriage proposals should be done.

Next thing you know, he will make a powerpoint presentation to everyone.

I can just see it now...with baby pictures and everything:eek:

Giftwise, I co-sign with the booze. Just don't bring gin.

I really hope he proposed & she accepted already in private & this is something they are staging for their loved ones. I went to a wedding like this, where the couple got married "on paper" in Europe. They came home about 6 months later and had a synagogue service and huge reception for family & friends. I think someone's mom threatened to disown etc if the grandma wouldn't be able to witness the whole traditional wedding & reception before she passed on.:p

That was very sweet, but a public proposal:erm:...best of luck.

:D That just mean we are not meant for each other:D

...and get drunk. What a fsking waste of time it would be if you ask your girlfriend to get married and she says no. That would be the end of the relationship IMO.

Yes but if you knew me and you tried that( proposing in front of people) i would leave your ass.

I would not attend as I don't think it is "the right way" to do this and I would tell the individual my reasons.

I have seen people propose in presleys on stage.....

I would oh so sweetly take the mic and tell you were to shove that ring :)

True, if the guy knew his girl wouldn't like it. But would you leave him, and go on with your own life, or come back later? If someone leaves me, or if a relationship end for any reason, it's done. I don't go back or take back. But I see your point.

Then you get the types that just love it: banners trailing behind a small plane WILL YOU MARRY ME...etc etc. :p Me, I'm not the kind of guy that would propose in public/in front of people.

Saw it once as well.

The guy asked the girl to get up on the table and then even I felt embarrassed for the them and took another sip of my beer.

But all the beer came out of my mouth when she said "no" and I started laughing :D

Bwhahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!:D

Also the first time I have heard of something like this. I would advise you to ask him to reconsider inviting other people.

It's almost as if he wants her to feel bad about saying no in front of family and that will make her feel very uncomfortable.

Well i'm sure he knows her well enough to know whether or not she would mind it.

Personally i would hate it if i was asked in front of people. I believe a proposal should be a special intimate occassion. Not everyone feels this way though.

lol that too yes. It's also embarassing for the person being asked though. Not all ladies would like all the attention on them while everyone waits for the answer. Very awkward.
