I have been invited to a dinner. The person is going to propose to his girl friend. Is one suppose to buy a present for them?

If its an engagement party then yes you can get a gift... I have never heard of people getting invited to the proposal though, is is a surprise for the lady ?

LOL i thought the same thing. Never heard of it either.

You could spring for a bottle of bubbly to celebrate.

You immediately assume she is going to say yes ;)

But I agree with Bwana here...bubbly never bad in these situations

Well if it's a surprise proposal then you would be giving the game away so I would buy an decent bottle of bubbly and ask the waiter to chill it in the kitchen in case something goes wrong.

A public (with friends/family) proposal? I really hope she says yes, otherwise you'll need to buy 2 bottles of bubbly for the (not)groom

Lol... ya I also have never heard of it. My bro has invited the immediate family. ...and yes its a surprise.

hehe, remind me of the one SNL episode where that chick totally freaked out after she heard she is at a proposal dinner and ran through the walls and ***** :D (lol blanks **** with a ! instead of 1  getting clever now!)

Ja- a big obvious "congratulations" box will go down well. Put it on the table where she can see it...

A guy invites people to a proposal dinner? Geez, unless they've agreed that she's going to say YES, that's a bit dodgy. :erm:

Be ready to make make your move if she says no. She'll be wanting to get out of there pronto.

I would just say no because he is asking in front of people.

How romantic.

Yep, it is a private matter and deserves the question asked while in private. Asking over a dinner in front of other people is so cliche!

Makes a bit more sense... Some one should have warned the dude though. Its a huge risk to do it like this. Even if she is going to say yes she might hate the situation

I hope he asked her parents already ?

:D
