Do I have LTE or not

I'm looking to sign up for the Uncapped LTE promotion that Telkom has on offer.

Problem is according to the coverage map I fall right on the edge of reach of the tower.

How can I go about testing if I will have reception before signing up? I have a SmartBroadband Wireless 10GB contract with them, but no way of telling if I'm connected to LTE or not?
 
Telkom deploys their LTE fixed mobile products on their 2300 Mhz spectrum. This includes the Uncapped LTE promo. So if your current service from Telkom is a fixed mobile service then you should be fine.

Does your router/dongle support 2300 MHz (Telkom fixed mobile is deployed on this band)? I stand corrected, its been a while, but you can see the center frequency or EARFCN that you are connecting to somewhere in the web interface. If that EARFCN maps to one of the 2300 MHz ones you should be good to go.

Worst case scenario an outdoor antenna (2x2 mimo) should give you the boost needed if you are on the edge of the coverage map. They normally are quite pessimistic on coverage maps to minimise customer complaints.
 
Get a Telkom LTE sim and invite round a friend with an LTE capable phone / device.
 
As someone said above get a prepaid LTE enabled sim card and get a friend to test it!
