Do i need a new PSU or DVD-RW?

So here is the problem.
I have an LG GH22NP20 and Windows 7 x64.

My computer had died, bast@rds at Saints Computers scammed me 1.2k and replaced my (Perfectly working) DVD-RW
With some obviously incompatible LG DVD-RW.

The problem:
I insert a disc, it makes some bad noise and the computer will reboot.
When it reboots while it is still inside, it won't boot at all most of the time until i remove the disc.

What i have tried:
>Download latest software / Flash
>Switch SATA cable

I have not tried a different PSU test thingy because of lack of another PC :P

So, next week with my tight budget of R200 i am off to buy one of the two:
1.A PSU

or

2.A DVD-RW


But first i must fall onto my LAST hope; MyBroadband community of IT Specialists.
What must i buy and how must it be?

I assume that the PSU i have is 250Watt.I check and there are no obvious signs of the Watt...
If i buy a new one (R200 - 250 please) How much Watts must it be?

or

If i buy a DVD-RW (R200 - 250 please) Wich one runs under 250watts?

open your pc up. there should be two cables from the dvdrom. one going to the power supply. The second one going to the SATA cable. disconnect the SATA cable on the motherboard and connect it to a spare SATA slot
 
Almost the exact same thing use to happen to me, i bought a new PSU and never happened again...

I couldn't make much sense of your advice and ultimatley fukt up my PC more but then fixed and neatened everything up...
I only have 1 SATA cable, as for the slots it's 1 from reader and 1 to mobo.

Yeah i am really thinking it's obviously the PSU because this started some time after i bought a graphics card? I think...
What was the amount of Watts that your PSU had prior to buying a new one and how many did the new one have?
 
I have confirmed that i am running a 250w, i am thinking of buying a 450w if it's not expensive.

You might get more help (suggested PSU) if you post detailed PC configuration (motherboard, CPU -native/current speed, graphics card in particular). Does it happen again if you remove new graphics card?.

... and lol, i can't try the without card option because the motherboard's PC to screen connector thingy is broken :p when i did try the PC just didn't respond to turning on :p

I am sure the problem wouldn't occur though :/

Yaaay, so guys next week Wed i go buy it... well if they don't have it in stock i buy something equivalent wich will hopefully be there.I am not a wait guy :(

Anyway, yaaay

*Also, i will buy headset and BATTLEFIELD 3 :) I am having a tough decision between Warfighter and BF3 :'( but my friend is on BF3 and i have always wantedto play with him :'(

So... still have to make THAT decision :)

Hold on.I have a question.Not just about this case but 450W pattern n general :/

You see there are two cables running from my PSU... one is the wall socket and the other goes to the screen.
Laugh at me but my screen is a 1024x768 box (or what was that term for them again?)

Now, like i said.2 cables going into my PSU, 1 from wall socket and the other from screen.

So what do i do about the PSU's with 1 socket?
How is the screen going to get power?

What about the switch? Will it fit into the frame of my Mecer case?
Because the PSU i have has no switch...
 
This is looking really bad for me and i have an obsession with getting people to understand my situation so here is an overview of this problem.


Computer Specifications:
Sound:ESQUIRE [2012]
Case: Mecer Case [2007]
Screen: Mecer Screen [2007]
Keyboard: Mecer Keyboard [2007]
Motherboard: BIOSTAR G3M1 ver 7.1 [ver 7.x]
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce EN 210 Silent 512MB DDR2

... and the PSU as you know is 250Watts


The Problem:
Computer is rebooting upon inserting a disc shortly after making a bad noise trying to read it.

The Solution:
Buy 450Watts Power Supply [Prefferably Thermaltake Lite Power]

The confusion:
These things only have a slot for the red cable coming in from the wall.

Help would be very nice.

You'll get a power cable with the new PSU. Use that to power the screen. PSU should fit your case, unless you have a branded PC.

So basically it has enough power to power the screen?

You see my friend... let me simplify further more:
I have:
>250Watts PSU
-It has 2 holes, like this.

Need to get:
>450Watts PSU
-It has 1 hole, like this.

So, what happens to the missing hole?
Because, without it the screen is only powered by the blue cable...

Nice answer. :) I agree with others for new P/S.
However before deciding on P/S, you must inspect broken connector and repair it, at least to ensure that there is no shorts between wirings in this mess. It will draw power, possible overheating integrated graphics chip and eventually destroy motherboard when you connect stronger power supply. It is why don't omit this step. I would also check if everything is OK with mobo using old cheap PCI graphics card like S3. If still reboots, disconnect optical device (power and data cable), and try to boot from other device to find out cause.

I decline to comment how to connect monitor to the power outlet, sorry pal, use your brain. :)
