I currently have the Astro A40 with Mixamp Pro TR. Best headphone setup I have ever had. Yes, I know there are better ones, but this was a gift from the SO and what I wanted.

Question is, I only play (or care about the sound in) PUBG. I also spend a lot of time watching twitch streams, and it seems like the guys there can hear in-game step way before, I think I will hear them. The one guy I check is using the Logitech G933 headset and I am sure he is using a DAC as well, though he doesn't mention this on his page.

Since the Mixamp is a DAC in itself, I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy this sound card and start using the SPDIF connection to my Mixamp.

Will it help at all or will I be wasting my monies? Currently using the USB part of the Mixamp.

Nothing will help you on PUBG, the net code of the game is terrible. We need local servers for this to work correctly.

For games with better net code(overwatch) and locally, it might help you a bit.

A sound card is just a DAC. Unless the sound card is doing some DSP and EQ to the audio before it passes it to your external DAQ, then no. Generally, a digital signal will just be passed through.

The other flaw in the system might be you're own hearing. Either you're not sensitive to frequency of foot steps or you're not trained your brain to pick out footsteps. You can also try EQ'ing in more of the footstep frequencies.

Not to judge, but it amazes that you've already spent a lot of money on a sound set up and you're willing to spend more. If sound is really that important to you, why not look into it as a hobby. I can't even afford a DAC, but I regularly look at articles about audio and audio equipment.

Currently, I am of the belief that a sound setup should be accurate, then one can EQ in what ever frequencies he/she wishes to emphasise. Gamer labelled equipment tend be flavoured, rather than accurate and emphasise the frequencies of the elements that gamers want to hear, e.g. footsteps.

Thank you for the replies.
Ghost729, I am not into sound, just wanted a better experience. :)
