Hi guys

Im looking at moving to a 4mb option, im currently on Openweb gold 2MB and paying around R850 for everything included, line, adsl etc.

The do Broadband Premium 4mb looks roughly the same price. R699+ line rental from what i can see. So thats also gonna be R850 all inclusive?

No. OW does not throttle/cap.
Telkom does.

how is Telkom ISP FUP and AUP? roughly same as OW?

Telkom does throttle you when you have reached a certain number of gigs, for a 4MB I think guys have been throttled at around 400-450GB. The upside is that their accounts dont seem to be shaped at all. I have a 2MB account and I haven't felt any shaping at all during business hours or after. I average around 200GB a month and I haven't been throttled in the time I have been with Telkom.

OW Gold accounts are pretty much dead in the water during the day (fan boi's dont hate, thats just the impression I get from reading the OW thread).

So its a choice of either a throttled (aka heavily shaped) account vs an unshaped till X amount of Gigs account.
I'd say the choice comes down to how much you download and whether or not you will be using your internet during the day or only after hours.

well put this way, i download p2p from about 6pm - 8am. from 6am the mornings till 6pm the evening no one is at home.

currently im on 2mbps silver from OW and going about 200GB -250GB a month. thats HULU + Youtube + steam + updates + P2P traffic mainly.
have 3 PC's in the house. only one will dl during day but it doesnt really matter if dl in day. so long get home and dl are done (they normally are) then im happy.

would just like 4mbps for streaming 720p. and you said 400GB on 4mbps from TI - isnt bad. ill probs just stream bit more so come say 300GB then for me PM. and i wont go gold from OW (too damn expensive). i would just upgrade to 4mbps gamers account if want to stay with OW. but the TI seems like better option for me

edit: axxess worth it or not? im guessing not but worth the shot. there prices are pretty good as well.

I would suggest looking at all the threads for the ISP's, generally the more complaints the more I would avoid that particular ISP.
From what I've picked up Axxess manages/throttles their 4MB accounts from around 230GB, as per an entry on their thread. OW is dog slow during business hours and fly after hours but Plugg users dont seem to have the same complaint, wierd since OW uses IS accounts. I dont like to reccomend an ISP as everyones needs are different to what mine are.
IMO Ti fills my needs because I rarely download over 200GB (so I havent had any throttling) and on the occassions that I'm home during the day my internet works at full line speed and I dont have to wait till 5PM to get ***** done. To me having a working internet connection during business hours didnt seem important until I needed to use it while home and I couldn't get more than 65kbps on downloads. Not to mention that they pricing is low (R607 for 2MB ADSL line, uncapped and voice incl), I'm actually considering bumping up to their 4MB uncapped (R849) soon.

seems much better the TI route for me. 4mbps- 400gb then throttle = i can live with that. OW as you said is slow during day i got a platinum complementry account and even that is slow! 6mbps acc but only does 512kbps on P2p and http like maybe 1.5-2mbps if lucky.

im paying 2mbps silver so 329 to OW and of course telkom and so forth. so it actaully works out almost the same price as what paying now. or just little more R369...

i think ill cancel OW next month and go telkom route afterwards :)

Its a win-win situation for you since you will now get 4MB uncapped for roughly the same price you were getting 2MB for.
Let us know how you find the Ti 4MB uncapped.
Since I've gotten my XBMC (with fusion installer) working I'm keen to get the 4MB premium so I can stream 720p tv shows and movies.

Thx for the responses guys. So for me who isnt going to go over 100gb per month, the Telkom 4mb option sounds peachy. On OW gold 2mb it is DEAD slow in business hours which is a joke. For the same money i can get 4mb and no office hours shaping it seems

Sorry to go a little off-topic but can you tell me how well Hulu streams on 2mb? Are you able to stream SD without buffering or not?

Thank you

:)

Anybody on this 4mb option from Telkom? At what point do they start throttling?

And how is gaming on it?

Can confirm this to be true. Hannibal series streams on High without any buffering on 2MB Ti.
