Just to add. I had a problem giving my hard earned money to another man as an “offering”. The pastors drive top of the range vehicles and they live in posh estates while the majority of the congregants barely have enough to travel to the service…

At some point, my church insisted on the “okweshumi” offering principle. Okweshumi is Zulu for 10 percent. Meaning, you had to give 10 percent of your monthly income as an offering to the church for the upkeeping of the “man of God”. My mom was the treasurer of the church and I peeked into the books and noticed that the money paid for ungodly things.

But what broke the camels back for me was when they wanted to see payslips. And that was the last time I was at church. My mom nearly disowned me, such is the brainwashing power of some of these churches. Luckily mom saw the light eventually and she, too, quit when it was clear that our relationship was fracturing beyond repair.

Just more religious kak. Rather take that 10% and give it to someone who actually does make a difference.
 
"Kerkmense" made me not wanting go to church services anymore. A lot of self-righteous, pompous, "I'm better than you" attitudes, putting their tithe with a flourish into the collection plate but screwing everyone over coming their way people. Thinking that attending church services regularly absolves them from being the narcistic pricks they are.

I can live out my religious beliefs without ever needing to attend a church service.

100% this. Especially to an organisation like Gift of the Givers. They help out wherever and whenever they can, irrespective of religious affiliation.
 
Religions are like badly designed MMORPGs with some strange micro transactions and church is like some weekly that needs to happen but everyone is failing at doing the dailies. What's the end game?
 
My helper goes every Sunday. She has been brainwashed to pay a certain amount every month else when she is not there there will be no one to do the last things tht they are supposed to do. She puts 10% and I feel sad the way these people are brainwashed. She also puts in her time at times but is does not get paid for it. Service to God it seems. Dont know wht to say

No, they're better than us. I stopped going to church as a kid because my mom got confronted because I was wearing Turtles tshirts and Turtles was satatic according to kerkmense lol. My mom stopped going to church and didn't want us to go to church either.

But when I got older I started to see the lies, dishonesty, hypocrisy, greed, corruption etc of SA churches and the nasty people who go to church so I'm staying far away. My faith is important to me, the church isn't.
 
Was forced to go as a child, hated it. Was certainly not a great introduction into religion which I guess I'm thankful for as it allowed me to see what bs it was.

We were never forced to go to place of worship and that is why it took 30+ years to get out of religion. In a way, being forced to go to church earlier in childhood seems to be sure shot way to atheism.
 
I only find myself in these buildings for baptisms funerals or weddings. Willingly go though? lol.
