Slightly random topic I know. I've noticed there are big difference in attitudes towards BCC though so thought I'd ask here. Some places seem to interpret it as lack of trust/betrayal while others are fine with it.

How do you utilise it (if at all)? Why?

If I'm mailing people who wouldnt know each other then yes. I hate when my email gets exposed then some idiot gets malware and then you start getting spammed.

Yes. I run a club and write to prospective speakers and Bcc the committee so they know what is going on

Yes, and almost always for this reason.

For this reason, as well as to avoid sending a follow-up email to the boss afterwards

@OP I send the mail to myself and Bcc all whom i wish to send to.
The Bcc recipients do not see any of the other addresses ...spam and personal protection.....if some in a group are ladies.
I never give a persons private details without permission, especially a lady's.

We send out a mailshot (newsletter) to 345 people and send the initial mail to the mail originator's address. The other 345 people are on a distribution list and this list is attached to the "Bcc" address

That way there is not a huge list of people who in any case might not like their email addresses being visible and each person receives a more or less personal message

I mostly BCC in trusted juniors on discussions that I want them to see but can't officially include. They learn from it & saves me explaining things later.

Most email progs allow you to keep the To field blank. ;)

Don't forget about 'Reply all'
I've got some clients that get really aggressive about this. They insist on massive amounts of people being CC'd and Reply to all....sigh fine whatever.

Haven't used this feature in a while but I think it is something that is very under utilised. I often see people cc'ing a massive group of people that might not want to be included.

I'm not even 100% sure I know how BCC works, let alone use it.
Does the exact same thing as CC except everyone in the TO an CC field can't see the person that was BCC'd in.

One side effect is that the BCC'd person doesn't get any responses to the mail. (Because if they click Reply to All it doesn't show the BCC'd person on their side)
