Its spring season, and I can see a lot of crawlies in and around the house. Especially Bush cockroaches, one flew past me while I was watching some netflix. Took care of it but got me thinking, do I need to call someone.
In my last house, the pest control guy charged me R800 and he sprayed something inside and outside the house for Bush cockroaches.
He had a bottle of something which he mixed in water and sprayed. He said it leaves some crystals after drying which keeps killing the pests. He got most of them, then he came back after 3 months to get rid of new hatchlings.
Only if I knew what he sprayed so that I can do it myself and save some money. If you do, whats do u use ?

We moved in two years ago and had bush cockroaches, as you said house is clean. They live outside and occasionally make their way inside especially when the cats are battering them around.

I had quite a few in the roof and used some doom foggers. This worked somewhat and eventually got a specialist in to take care of it.

They used a tin of this in the roof - https://pestcontrolchemicals.co.za/product/nu-pro-330ml/

And then sprayed around the base of the house and in the kitchen a bit, they came back 30 days later to do a “top up” spray

Haven’t seen a live cockroach in two months.

I use this, as soon as something gets in touch with it it dies. Ive licked some of the paving where I sprayed it and it did nothing to me so safe around humans and pets.

Let me know if you want some, and are in the Northern suburbs, I can drop some off.

I am in southern suburbs, but where can I buy one ?

We had an insect infestation in 2019. Every single thing we tried didn’t work, they were everywhere.
We called the exterminators we used back in 2006. They came and sprayed some stuff for free. Just charged a call out fee.
After 3 days there were millions of these bugs crawling out of every crevice. That was that, no insects anymore.

I use a brick for cockroaches, and a fly swatter for everything else
Boracic powder works a charm
Dont know why. But they disappeared for good after sprinkling the powder in hidden areas.

Tried the fancy Gels from Bayer and the powders etc from Builders nothing worked.

When I bought my house, there were quite a cockroach problem, as per neighbour, the previous owner boyfriend did reupholstery and as the lounge suites were brought on the premises the house would be reinfected.

A good clean and killing of the current infestation and just keeping the house clean and there has been no outbreak since.

Only once bad a real pest problem with carpenter bees making a nest in our roof. Took care of them myself over a couple of days and filled the holes they made. They never came back.

They made one hell of a noice drilling holes in the wood.

I had a rat in our ceiling.
I hired a reputable company to get rid of it.

My expectation: Get into the roof, find the hole, potentially seal it. Lay traps at different points.

Reality: The guy came, setup his ladder by the ceiling trapdoor, stuck his head just into the ceiling and just threw the bait throughout the ceiling.
I was a bit disappointed as I could easily have done that myself.
There was a follow up visit, and I thought the first guy took chances, but the second guy did the exact same thing.

I now know how to handle rats myself

did they also claim that the rat will go looking for water and hence won't die in the ceiling? But if he does die in the ceiling, they will remove it for you ?

Haha yip but just the first part. They would not climb in the ceiling for any reason.
Plumbers should add pest control services and make extra cash. They at least don't shy away from getting into the ceiling.
