If so to what causes?

How much (roughly as a percentage of income)? (Edit: Asking this to judge whether you donate R20 bucks or 20% of your salary. Let's not turn thread into a p!ssing contest about who has highest numbers)

What motivates you to do so?

Do you see tangible results?

I donate to the Anti Animal Cruelty League whenever I have a little extra money or a good month so to speak.

They've saved Meow Meow and Bubbles' life on more than one occasion.

That and its incredible work that they do to save animals.

I don't care much for humans
 
Money currently no. But donate maybe like a 500zar worth of clothing a month. (Buy online & rather donate than return the stuff that doesn't work out)

My previous employer matched donations 1:1 which seemed like a good deal so yes donated money there. I've seen a couple charity's finances and that didn't inspire confidence...but 1:1 was too good to pass up on.

Interesting. I care for both & their suffering pains me but given limited resources I'll go humans every time.

^ Pretty much animals only, sorry, nothing in this country worthy.
 
I make donations of about R300pm and about R2000 once a year as a one off donation.

Society has created conditions for me to make decisions that got me to this position. It is only fair I do the same for it.

Towards the end of my studies I was in huge financial difficulty and couldn't afford to settle a balance of R3500

I was chatting to a random guy on IRC and he asked for my bank details and just like that gave me the money. The following year I graduated but I never saw that man again.

I always wanted to repay him, and so this is how I do it.

Monthly to the NSRI, because they caught me trying to walk past their stall without being noticed.

Also, they do great work and donations to them are tax deductible ;)
 
As I don't belong to a church, the 10% I would have given to tithe I split 3 ways on a monthly basis.

1. R1500 - Walmer Angels Project (on Facebook) - they feed and clothe in the Walmer township, and are a registered NPO (tax deductible)

2. R1500 - East London Society for Ages - feeding 3 grannies for 1 meal a day per month, also registered NPO (tax deductible)

3. R800 - Opened an FNB saving account that when I see a need (and there is a lot out there for food, clothes, blankets, sanitary towels) I buy what is needed then and there and give (never give just money).

Do unto others as you would have them do to you.

Since it is the end of the tax year, work out how much tax you paid this current tax year, donate the same amount to a registered NPO/NGO who is a PBO and claim the money back when tax season opens. You win. Your favourite PBO wins. Zuma loses.
 
Wikipedia. Outa. Family friend (monthly sum). Have donated to different organisations (adhoc) and the odd person anonymously if I know there is a real need.
