Just a gardener - twice a month. Thinking of employing a housekeeping help at least once a week.
 
Garden service once every two weeks to mow the lawn on the outside of the property. I'd have to buy a new mower and trimmer for that area, so it feels cheaper to just pay a company to do it. The rest we do ourselves but will need to pay tree fellers from time to time to help with trimming.
 
I have a lady twice a week. She's worked for us for years.

She generally does a good job. Her idea of tidying up is not really to put everything in their place - more so to ensure that nothing is lying around. This means things get put in places where they're not supposed to be, which causes tension.

She also tends to iron things one is not supposed to iron, which puts unnecessary wear and tear on clothes.

And then while she's supposed to work 8 hours a day, she tends to come in at 7:30 and leave at 13:00. She doesn't take lunch, so it is relatively close to 8 (6.5 hours). She never naps or drinks tea/coffee for hours at a time and while I know she has taken things that we've thrown away, we haven't had a theft of any sort.

Except I got stuck with a gardener that came with the house. I get him to do odd jobs as well.
He is old as f and this is his only income so a bit tricky but when I get a chance to replace I will definitely use a service instead.

When we bought our current place they (domestic and gardener) were staying on the property (house in the city, not a farm or small holding or anything). We politely asked the previous owner to ask them to leave, so they were out when we moved in.

Better that way (imho) - the old owner can blame the new owners and they can be mad at the new owners but me (the new owner) never had to meet them and awkwardly ask to leave.

ya I wish I had now but he was so helpful when we moved in. Was nice to have someone who knew the place better than I did.

This year will definitely be some tough conversations

Moved and also scaled down.



Now have sweep south coming in every second week.
And gardener every second month.
 
Im renting where I stay, me and landlord go half each for a garden service that comes in once a week.
As for the house, mother-in-law stays with us. So she, my wife and my unemployed daughter handles the house keeping jobs.
 
Not really necessary and in my experience it's just a hassle.
 
Never really wanted/needed one until kids came along and then took over my mom’s trusted domestic lady and now she comes once a week.

Gardener also inherited from my mom and he comes once a month just to maintain and clean up a bit while I do the rest in between.

Probably wouldn’t replace either one if they get too old or don’t want to work any more because the hunt for a new one would be more trouble than it’s worth.

Gardening Services have been nothing but a disappointment.

Only 30% clean up after themselves. That's still a very well off society.

A maid is probably the biggest security risk you can have. They can report on you to local criminals or be coerced by local criminals to do so or open the door to thugs. If the criminals don't know who lives at your place, do they own guns, internal security, if there's anything of value, they're less likely to target you.
Now neighbours' maids or gardners may be a security risk too as they can observe what's happening at your place, get your schedule and may be coerced to report to whatever criminal is going to force them to.

How big is your house that you have 3 people doing house keeping ?

Very unusual. How do you hire them ? Ours are usually by referral within complex/friends etc and I don't recall a single incident reported in our complex. I mean, post covid, it is not like these jobs are dime a dozen so it is really not worth for anyone to lose it.

Its not a big house. And its not full-time house keeping. Also, my wife works full time so she just delegates what has to be done. Furthermore, my mother-in-law is in her 60's so she does the bare minimum. My daughter does most of the chores.
 
Nope, too much admin to employ someone. We just clean up after ourselves.
