Do you own a second smartphone which you use as a backup or when travelling?

I used to but then I got wise and bought a high-end dual sim phone (Huawei P10 Plus). Works like a charm. When I travel to the UK, for example, I just keep my SA sim card in the one slot and buy a local UK sim for data and stick it into the second slot. I've never looked back.

Currently I do - you know, just in case of that theft or loss or deep sea overboard drop!

Have 2 dual sim Wileyfox Swift 2X phones. 1 is backup as I run my business from my phone, so cannot afford to be without

I have a backup for my backups backup... I have a simcard for every provider just in case coverage is an issue, main phone is an S8, backup is an iPhone X, Note 8 and an Galaxy S7. So I think I am covered?. All the simcards have airtime and data

Yes, 1 proper smart. And a few not even close to colour screens.
Prefer to use backup phone that has no data. Voice and SMS with keypad only phone. Then when you get your phone back or new phone, you don't have to worry about data that you have to transfer seperately from the original phones backup.

Yes, Samsung S2 for MTN, and Vodacom cheapie.

Yes, I have backups for both phones. I use an iPhone 7 (my personal sim) and Galaxy S8+(my work sim) and I have an iPhone 6s and a Galaxy S6 as backups for each of them.

ifruit 7+ as main phone
ifruit 6s work phone
Galaxy s4 as bedside alarm clock

Work phone has unlimited everything & personal use is allowed so that's essentially the backup
