Do you have a dashcam?

If so has the footage proven itself to be of any real value?

I have one, thankfully never needed the footage but glad it's there in the background.
Also nice to be able to relook at a situation if needed (like memorizing how you placed your car between the potholes to do the same the next time, or look at unusual events - like some security guards detaining some dude on the pavement, etc).

It's a Garmin Dashcam Mini. Small, doesn't look like something worth stealing like the big dashcams with screens, reliable even on a JHB to Durban holiday in a heatwave with high humidity this Feb.

I hit a pedestrian. Several people came forward and made statements that I was in the wrong. I handed in my dashcam footage as evidence which confirmed my side of events. Docket was closed on this evidence alone.

friends telling stories funny incidences while travelling, seeing strange people and animals, suspicious activities, road rage, illegal dumping, its all recorded.

DoD dashcam in bakkie: 12 years old, gravel road everyday, unbreakable 10/10.
Xiaomi Mi in car: 2 years old, too sensitive for our roads, keep screaming warnings with every bump, pothole, incline, ribbed- dipped and decline 3/10.

I got the MI dashcam too. I don't find it too sensitive TBH. Very happy with it.

I am seriously considering a dashcam.
Which one would you recommend that is not too expensive? It also need to fit on my Fiesta's steep windshield, and not be so obvious. I can hide it in front of the rearview mirror.
While Garmin Dashcam mini looks enticing, it is a bit expensive.

I have one of these. By far not the best , but for the price it gets the job done.

I bought my Viofo A119 v3 about 3 years ago from https://cardashcam.co.za/
Extremely happy with the unit. It's discreet and the video quality is excellent. Had the unit hardwired into my car with the Power Magic Pro hardwiring kit. If, for whatever reason I would need to ever replace the dashcan it would be with another Viofo. Maybe this time with a dual dashcan setup.

very useful indeed, keeps the cnts off your case. the amount of times i just pointed to it and the muppet behind hit his brakes, bliss

I have been using one for a few years. Only recorded one incident that I noticed, but I wasn't involved. An oke in a polo discovered why one shouldn't overtake on the left and kissed the crash barrier.

Otherwise it just sits there, doing it's thing.

I have the 70mai dashcam pro with the GPS module. The GPS module stopped working because it never makes proper contact anymore. Sometimes the camera complains about low battery when I start the car (guess the battery is poked) and sometimes it complains about the SD card.

But all in all, it chugs along, recording every day.

I have one and so far I only download the video of the countryside if it is something I liked. Like when I went down a gravel mountain pass in an old Renault 5. But further not much.

I have one and I'm seriously considering replacing it with a dual-camera setup for the back window as well.

Currently got a Hikvision F6 and it's brilliant. Before that was using a G1W-C for quite a few years. Tried some others before then but the sun fried them.
