I got the MI dashcam too. I don't find it too sensitive TBH. Very happy with it.
Where in the ZA do you live with 1st world standard roads? Or maybe you drive a better quality vehicle than I do.

Important to note:
Some Dashcams come with suction cup thingies that adhere to the windshield. These you can move from 1 vehicle to another.
Some come with a "permanent stick to the windshield" option.

Don't get caught with the one when you need the other.

(What's the right word to use: Windscreen or windshield?)

Garmin mini 2 in the fleet and in my garage of vehicles. No issues, works brilliantly and is reliable.

If you don't look for it, you won't notice it's in a vehicle. Tiny lil bugger that's 5cm.

I voted no because I don't have one, but should have. It's definitely a must. Wouldn't mind if it was made mandatory.

That is why I love Teslas, they have cams pointing in all directions.

Currently got a Hikvision F6 and it's brilliant. Before that was using a G1W-C for quite a few years. Tried some others before then but the sun fried them.
I like that model, it seems very affordable.

Have been using for years and years,

Good deterrent to dodgy cops and road rage.

Got an Android Radio that has a module for it and used my old volkano one for the back view

I have been using a Garmin dash cam here in Abu Dhabi for years, it sits in the car all the time and has worked flawlessly. No dmamge from the sun and it gets bloody hot here - sometimes well over 50 degrees C, hate to think how hot the camera gets but it is too hot to touch.
Have used it to point at when locals in their Nissan Patrols get too cocky, fortunately not needed in an accident yet. Not 100% sure how long I have had it but it is at least 5 years old.

Need to get a helmet cam, but Go Pro's are out of my budget for now, even second hand.

I see loads of action cams available online for less than 1K but none of them seem half descent based on their reviews.

Anyone got a recommendation for a semi decent one?

EDIT: The phone holder on my handlebars can tilt far enough to where my phone can take a decent angled video, but the vibration on the bars causes a super blurry video, wouldn't mind using it if not for that.

Nope. Not enough in accidents to be of value.

I think its also inviting thieves for breaking into your vehicle.

My one helped me when a lady reversed around a blind corner and into me. She swore she was stationery and I drove into her. She even got her lawyer involved for some reason

I copied the clip and sent it to the lawyer. He claimed that it was of no use since he could not see the date and time. I went to his office and found he was using the incorrect aspect ratio on his media player software which blanked off the bottom of the picture. After viewing this he said he would take it under consideration

I never heard from him again. My insurance recovered R28000 from her

The picture is not marvellous, but quite adequate. It helps if the windscreen is clean

How did it help you? Did the insurance company share the R28000?

And did they recover that amount from her or from her insurance company?

Scummy humans and their bottom-feeding lawyers. So typical one would lie in this instance. Worth the price of a camera!

All claims go against ones personal loss ratio which also determines your renewal premiums. They could also have recovered the excess if applicable.

Those of you who do, how long are the cables and what do you do with them?
I use my phone as GPS and only plug it in for longer trips. Even then the dangling power cable annoys me.
