Have a Mecer UPS and have recently bought an additional Gizzu mini UPS as the Mecer was not coping with having load shedding for 6 hours per day.
 
2 X 150 AH batteries
Solar Panels
2000w Sine wave inverter
12V LED lights in most rooms.
5G router running on 12V
PC running on 12V
12 volt DC input, PC power supply
Gas Bottle for Cooking

Effectively off-grid. [Still have emergency (!) connection to ESKOM - not used yet and if needed, wouldn't be functional ):oops:

Entire system well under 200K from 365Solar.

2 x 150 AH batteries
16 solar panels
2000w inverter.
LED lights
Gas stove & heaters.
Generator for when ESKOM needed in that emergency situation!

Loving out inverter, solar lamps and 12volts UPS for the WiFi and ONT.

In the process of replacing my PSU with a 12volt ITX model and run even longer on 12 volts.

It's the future - 12 volts!
 
No idea what this load shedding is. Always hearing people speak about it...
 
You can get a decent 5kw/5kWh solar system for 80k or less. It will pay for itself in 10 years. Borrow from your bond and the repayment wil be close to your electricity bill savings.

I can honestly say I don't even remember when loadshedding is happening anymore.
 
Well I spend very little and manage load shedding just fine.
We have a gas stove from way before load shedding was a thing, so food, coffee etc is no problem.
We camp and go fishing a lot so I have a few of these small 7ah brick batteries(use them for lights and my Bait boat). They can now be used for pretty strong 12v lights that can be moved to where you want light. Normally have 3 running at night load shedding. The biggest problem with them is you need a proper charger that wont damage them. I paid 1k for a 1amp car battery maintenance charger years ago, that keep these small batteries in perfect shape.
These things I had, so not bought for load shedding.
Only thing I actually bought was a cheap R350 300watt inverter that I connect to one of the small batteries to power the fibre ont and router.
There is enough phones, ipads and laptops to watch tv or surf the web if needed. But then again, 90% of the time during load shedding, me and the kids rather play something or just sit and spend some time together. Got the inverter for the fibre more as a solution for wife that work from home these days.
 
I have a UPS to power my ONT and fibre router during outages to keep the WIFI going. A few power banks to keep the phones and tablets going. A small gas stove \ stovetop kettle for coffee or cooking. A few portable lights, lots of AA and AAA batteries, candles. Gas barbecue and inbuilt braai for cooking bigger meals :)

I just need one of those mobile power stations to keep my monitor going and I should be relatively ok.

I'd love to get a proper solar setup but the cost is a bit much still. I would gladly pay R100k but R200k is too much.
I Paid R110k for a 5kw hybrid system, including 13 panels, 5kw connected inverter, one lithium battery and all the small electrics etc. KZN
 
I've got a guy coming today to upgrade my solution, from 4 inverters spread around the house to one centralised one.
 
1 X Mecer 2400w Inverter
2 x 105 aH Battery

Runs 2 x LED TV, Network, Couple Light, Alarm System, 2 x DSTV Decoder, no problem for +/- 3 hours. Planning to add some solar panels to keep the system charged during the day.
 
I would like ti test one of these NAS systems . I am partyime 360 photograper and are always looking for space to backup videos .
 
Inverter with 2x 205Ah batteries to run all the lights and a few select plugs, gas stove, few power banks, solar panel for the geyser and a JoJo tank (which can provide water to our household for about 1 week).

The unfortunate reality is that we will continue to be plunged into darkness 2 to 4 times per day every year for the forseeable future. Some sort of backup power (and maybe water) is a must.
 
Got one of those Mecer inverters. It runs my router, ONT and my machine. Don't really need much else.

For tea/coffee hot water I usually boil a few cups of water in the kettle and just stick it in a thermos.
 
I have a small farm in Limpopo and to be honest, load shedding is the least of my worries. At least with load shedding, I know when the power will go off and for how long. We have very frequent power outages, some that last days because our Muni keeps putting band aids onto gut shot wounds. There's absolutely no supervision of technicians, and therefore, no consequences. Besides, the technicians love the overtime pay.

I've always had a little 6KVA genset, but about 4 years ago, I invested in a 2KVA inverter and 480 Ahrs of lead acid batteries. I isolate my fridges when on inverter and to a large extent, I am kinda oblivious of the power being off as I have a gas hob for any cooking (or hot water) requirements... The inverter is such a pleasure compared to having to run the genny. Oh, and I have not owned an electric geyser in the last 20 odd years.
