I have only very limited time on a mavic pro but it's very intuitive. Within about 30 seconds I was flying big circles around myself while keeping the camera fixed on me. I guess those types of drones are for the footage whereas the fun of flying would come from something more challenging.

100%. I think that is why you don't see them around as much anymore. When the first Mavic's came out everybody wanted one. I think people realized it is more a commercial tool than a hobby device. I never flew the Mavic and thought "oh cool, so much fun". Fun for the first few minutes, after that it was just a tool that was used.

I crashed two RC heli's within days of each other. I can only imagine how bad I would be with a drone
 
Does anyone have any suggestions for an entry-level drone? From cheap as chips to a couple of grand and in between? Been toying with the idea for a while.
 
The tiny toy ones are much harder to control than the bigger ones. Also a real pain to practice on because the batteries are dead not long after you take off. Whereas on larger quadcopters the larger size and weight makes them less twitchy and you can fly for several minutes on a charge.

Quadcopters are typically significantly easier to fly than a helicopter. Helicopters, both full size and models, are essentially completely unstable and could be said to be constantly attempting to crash.

I know helicopter pilots who took up flying radio control helicopters and their opinion was that other than knowing in advance what the controls did flying a real one was no help in learning to fly a model.
 
I once took my drone to Bali and flew it in a touristy area. A couple of Asian girls walked up to me to ask how do you fly it as they brought one too which they borrowed from a friend, but they have never flown it before. I gave them a very quick lesson and continued with my own business.

These morons then launch it between everyone and fly it directly into someone's leg. Was quite funny in a WTF way.

Look for a second hand DJI spark with controller.. Usually go between 3 and 5k. Piss easy to fly.

Flew one before till the battery conked in...sitting on the shelf all along. So I can and I can't!
 
Haven't because I sill need to get one. Know that I will be able to simply fly it, but won't be in the military drone pilot class!
