Yes, started with a Syma XS5SW to learn to fly on (I mean crash) then upgraded to a Visuo XS809HW (a Mavic copy) with A 720P camera which is a great trainer with ultimate goal of obtaining a Mavic Pro for photography.
I believe in learning on basic models before forking out the big bucks!

very good idea, same with my syma X5C-1 drone the citi golf of drones.
one day will get something better to fly.

My insurance contacted me today saying that Santam doesn't insure drones under general insurance anymore and they have now given me a quote of R4k payable annually with Santam Aviation.

That's a bit rough for something I barely ever use. So hijack - do you guys have insurance and if so, how much?

Interesting. My insurance is willing to cover my drone for R65/month, but they exclude accidental damage In other words, for theft only all risk.

Been using my Mavic Pro more than I expected to as it provides great perspectives for family photos.

thats insane, never though at the problems of insuring drones, dont think its too much of an issue, due to their relative scarcity.

sure their are brokers that specialist in those, maybe ask around, sure one of the brokers has a contact in drone insurance.

They probably won't insure for in-flight unless you have the necessary certification.

You can buy a Mavic Pro for next to nothing these days, so pointless insuring it.

Since this thread is going again, what device do you guys use with your drone? I've been using my phone which is a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, however I find in sunny conditions it's screen is not performing as required.

My Samsung Tab A 9.7" fell and shattered horribly a week ago, so in the market for a new tablet and considering an iPad mini 4 as a replacement. The only reason really to switch to the mini is because from reading up on it this is a brilliant option for a drone. Also, someone mentioned to me that the iOS app from DJI works a charm compared to Android. I haven't had any issues with the Android app though.

It's expensive new, so looking for a secondhand/refurbished one but they are hard to find at a reasonable price.

Any thoughts on this?
