Had an SLR camera (Pentax) since 1968
On my 3rd DLSR now, a Nikon 3500 and several lenses. The VR effect on a 400mm lens is poor, considering it was over R 75 000

Interesting, do you have one, or know where to get? A quick Google did not reveal much.
Found one at a 3rd of the price I paid in 2008. (I didn't even check whether the seller is legit)

You can get wifi sd cards.
Yeah - had a bunch of these at one time but wasn't particularly impressed with their performance. Found one in a drawer yesterday

TBH I usually disable the onboard wifi to conserve battery life. Not sure how effective that is though. Compared to dSLRs, mirrorless are power hungry devices.

Yeah I saw that as well, and Loot, which had no stock.

It’s becoming less and less frequent. I have a Canon 20D, 30D and 600D, and haven’t used any this year. It’s more for special occasions than something that lives in the boot.

unfortunately there isnt a photography scene in south africa particularly gauteng, about the only thing worth photographing in jhb in the historic dilapidated inner city buildings

Yeah, not much in JHB and the nature places are pretty superficial and artificial tbh but there definitely is a lot to photograph in SA and having a camera on hand can make those trips more memorable.
