Do you still use a point and shoot?

I actually thought these were obsolete now with smartphone cameras getting better but after watching some YT videos on this, it seems that smartphones are still far away from being able to match point and shoot cameras.
 
Last time I saw a point and shoot was probably around 2013?

I think they fell out of fashion amongst the general populace.

Yeah. Probably only worth it if you are a pro. I won one in 2015 but last saw it around 2017. The mode dial broke. Since then, I've been using my DSLR.

They used to be very popular up to around 2012 or so. The smartphone industry killed them.
 
I have one for the beach and rivers. Olympus Tough. I don’t take my phone underwater at the beach.
 
Haven't had a point and shoot since my Nikon P something or other (P5000 or P6000 maybe). Went on holiday recently and didn't even bother taking a camera, cellphones are pretty much good enough these days for that sort of thing.

I still use my Canon ISUX when I go to festivals, birthday parties or special occasions.

I like the flash, especially for night time events, it's stronger than an iPhone LED flash at night.

Nope, I did play around with an old Canon bridge camera (circa 2013) sometime last year but despite the 50x zoom which was its selling point, I didn't see the point of using it as its quality was lacking compared to the DLSR and even iPhone photos.

Load CHDK on that bad boy!

I got a rudimentary timelapse setting working by coding in a simple .lua script. But you can do much more if you are willing to play around a bit.

My dad still uses mine, he loves it since he can zoom right in on whatever bushbuck/kudu/impala's nostrils he's spotting:D

The only point and shoots still worth buying are 1" sensor ones with a decent lens or a party truck like a 15x optical zoom lens.

And with the latest "pro" camera phones I'd say the former are also under threat of becoming obsolete.

We're on the verge of it being 4/3 minimum or just stick with your (non shitty) phone.
 
Point and shoots are basically high range products for people who don't know how to use a smartphone.

Yea I suppose.

Thing is I have not yet found a cellphone with a camera that is capable for anything other than family, scenery or selfie shots so decided get a mid range phone, a bridge camera and still have around R5K in change.

Oh and actual ability to take macro photos without getting stung or bit in the process or photos of animals that are further than 10 meters from me.
