I've had a DSL192 line at home for ages. I was getting 33kb/s. Since thursday afternoon, I'm lucky to get 20kb/s.

I have tested both SAIX and IS and both local and int. My router still says that down link is 320kps.

Do you think i should log a fault or just accept it?

Quite Right. I have a 192 line and i usually get over 30kb without a problem but like yourself iv also noticed a considerable speed decrease in the last week or so. Just be greatful that your internet actually works-well i am anyway!!!

maybe telkom is just slowing everybody down, because when they decrease the line rental, then we'll all upgrade 8-)

Telkomese = "best effort" service
English = Take it or leave it

The same thing happened to me last week as well. My line stopped working for 3 hours and then all of the sudden came back and I was lucky to get 20kB/s. But then again on Saturday I disconnected and reconnected my line and I was okay again...getting a healthy 33kB/s. Give it some time and reconnect your line every now then.

I get a constant 35 KB on my 192 line, sometimes it jumps to 55 KB but that only happens when my VMware Ubuntu is running.

I'm also on 192k. Had exactly the same, it used to cruise at 33KBp/s. Since about two weeks ago my line has been maxing out at 22KBp/s. :(

The same happened with me and my 384k line. I could download at 54k a sec then all of a sudden i was back at normal speed of 41k. The issue went away after about a week or so. Not much you can do.

You guys have to see that this isnt a problem right? Its just Telkom sorting itself out.

Everyone was moaning about Telkom the whole time but neglecting one thing. They actually give you better speeds than you pay for, no other broadband provider in the world does that on the scale Telkom was doing it. But they still suck.. too bad.

Oh well except for the 512kb and 1024kb customers, thats where the ADSL technology reaches it limits. No way to go above those kind of speeds. :P

Truth be told 192 isnt broadband and very few providers globally could get away with offering speeds below 512 or 1024.

192 is still cheaper and faster than bra isdn, but to be honest, I'd rather just use GPRS/3g hsdpa ect, because you don't have to wait weeks and give telkom more money.

Telkom isn't a utility because a utility is useful!

How much is MTN's GPRS/3g hsdpa ect per gb?

its R2 per meg so thats R2000 per gig. You can only surf and mail, else you'll have to sign your house and car over to mtn and pimp out your wife and become a bergie, just to download a movie!

Was a bit surprised at that amount so went and double checked - you can get 1gb bundles for r499 on both MTN and Vodacom (hmm exactly the same price - they would never collude on prices would they :rolleyes: ). Still ridiculously priced though.
