The gender pay gap is a contentious issue and you'd do well to research both sides of the story.

Not denying it doesn't exist at all, but then if it does - isn't there a good reason for it?

The reality is that everybody rich or poor needs to have a stake in the economy to avoid a situation where we have a segment of the population willing to bring it down because they have nothing to lose

Yes. Although I do believe that a fair amount of inequality is healthy. It is unhealthy if the situation for those at the bottom end of the scale is declining, or even staying static over time, while the other strata improve. The bigger question is how to deal with it when it becomes unhealthy, since the short term fixes tend to be long term economic disasters.

Of course it's a problem.
Poorer people are generally OK with their situation, until they live close to well-off people and start comparing their situation to their own. This is both common sense, and backed by studies.

The problem becomes even worse when the poor are really poor, and the rich are really rich. I'm not even talking about it on some moral or ideological level.

When income inequality (real or perceived) gets high, the peasants revolt, and when there are more peasants than lords, everyone is in for a bad time.

Individuals are different in their work ethic and intelligence so there will always be inequality.

The Left like to think "everyone is equal" but this is clearly nonsense.

People are far less concerned about inequality when you expand the pie rather than slicing up the same pie.

I think inequality is a consequence of a free market and economic growth which are needed to move people out of poverty. In all countries which moved from poor to rich, like Singapore and China, inequality increased. When a company becomes rich it is easier to address inequality.

But while income inequality in developed countries are about luxuries, in a country like SA its a huge issue as there is literally no way out.

Social mobility is generally thought to be a product of education, social environment in upbringing and nutrition. In SA all three require adequate funds (yea.. your parents trying to instill values does not come for free.. they can spend that time because either there is two of them and/or they not working shift jobs) and the discrepancy between a funded kid and state funded kid has just got worse over time.

People love claiming an intellectually advanced kid or race has no equal but if you willing, take ur kid, toss him/her with same level of advantages from small and see what happens. It’s BS and a plethora of reading material from UK & US over decades states this.. intelligence has a minor impact and minor because with funds it can be overcome.. intelligence or so called racial advantages count for nought without opportunity.. and this is very monetarily defined in SA along with who you know.

Ps. Who you know.. heavily lopsided to a culture that is European. Find successful people and see how they have different personalities when out and about networking
