That would be a fair counter point; if I don’t rock up to a petrol station that I have never used before and get the exact same service from my local one.

So I’m not convinced.
Maybe it's because I have a big personality.

That be FUN FACT 3 :)

I want to avoid calling them lazy; but I tend to agree.

I've seen the lazy ones at other garages a lot, they do the bare minimum and are very slow at that too... Well, it is a rather tedious job and as time passes I don't blame them for it. What I do believe is rewarding good service.

It's taken a while to get to this point, but, as I always suspected, it is based on racial tones.

Black petrol attendants - get paid up front, no effort, lazy etc - NO TIP.

Waiters - may be black, and also get paid up front, but hey, perceived as more "upper class", so we may or may not give them a tip based on how well they serve us.

Yawn so now calling someone lazy is racist. FML. This place is obsessed with race.

It's nothing to do with race - it just happens that a lot of them are Black. You will also find similar lazy Indian or White Attendants as well if the population demographics were flipped.

Sure.

Thing is that nobody is forcing them to keep that job. They can earn that money and at off times upskill themselves if they choose to do so. The official unemployment rate in SA is 32%, people should be happy they have work.

Secondly, I'll be honest. Sometimes I want to correct poor service but then I think to myself, it's not worth it. If I'm frustrated, let someone else be too. If the owner of the store or franchise can't be bothered with poor service, I'm not going to train his staff for him. That happens in iStores for example. The service is bad. One could complain but then, it's Core, so to heck with them. Let others also enjoy rubbish service.

I think the tipping culture with waiters is BS. There should be no tips. Service charge should be included. That's what Fyn does in Cape Town. I suspect the owners are weebs who studied in Japan where tipping is considered rude and they don't tip.

You should not have to reward any sort of service you already pay for. Your deal is with the company be it Spur or Engen and you pay for the product and move on. If you are a freelancer you negotiate the rate and bonuses and you get paid accordingly. Bonuses should come from the management and not the customer otherwise. Staff should be happy the garage or restaurant is busy because then there will be less likelihood of the business failing and people facing loss of work.

I've never had them check my oil and tyre pressure. I always say no thanks to that.

As for window washing, they just do that anyway without asking, and 9/10 times they lean over the car and their keys (or that funny thing they use to unlock the pump) would bash or scrape against my car. They even clean when clearly my windows are clean.

Also, while I'm commenting about it. What's with the filling the car up till it's over safety detection zone? Most of the time it just leaves a mess.
That's why you ask them to fill it to the autostop. I've not once ever had somebody not stop there after I've asked them to.

Did you know that women tip the ladies (and men) who wash their hair and give them a head massage at the beginning of their hair cuts? And often the tip is like hundreds of rands. I was shocked when I discovered that.

Not really finding another thread but was both surprised and very annoyed the other day to get asked for a 10% tip at a counter take away order. I mean really?

Do I have to tip even though I drive an EV?
