Do you use the iPad's camera??

Skype is the only reason I use the camera is a pretty crappy camera both sides for anything else really

I Can find 1000 ways to better spend my R8000 than on a fondleslab which is a great gimmick in the beginning but eventually becomes a kids toy...

You need to learn to shop if you are going to pay R8000 for one. But as mentioned before if you had one you would probably understand.

That's your opinion. Yes, there are those caught in the tablet fad without giving WHAT they want to do with the tablet much thought, you sound like one of them.

All i know, is that everyone i know with an iPad find it utterly useless as is. Maybe with a USB port, or more compatibilty, I might think about it.
Until then it's a horribly over-priced gimmick (Where Core is partly to blame), that i could find more use for my money.

Just my opinion...

What do you mean by compatibility? If you're referring to Flash, agreed.

Regarding the USB port, I thought files would be an issue but Dropbox works very well. Anything bigger I can import over Wifi.

I can't figure out if it's the iPad specially you don't like - or tablets in general?

Many of my friends felt the same (they're technical illiterates :-)) until I spend a bit of time to set it up for them - basic stuff like Dropbox, Evernote, IMAP email, RSS reader etc.

The potential is there, many people just don't know how to harness it properly.

Everyone has a right to there opinion and before I might have agreed with you. Instead of complaining though I decided to learn how to use it more effectively and this is what I use it for. First as a presentation tool with the VGA and hdmi adapters so no need to lug my laptop round, obviously email, and the calander and organizer. I also installed Evernote for my work stuff, I also have my VMware view client and vsphere client for the work stuff, tv series, movies, games and music for when I travel which is a lot. Also splash top for Internet remote access to pc in my lab and home and Siri for being a pa. Still working on more things to do like listen to radio.

Ok now I have some books to read and some Cisco text books that the new version of the iBooks utilizes pretty well so now apart from everything I mentioned earlier it's now also a study aid and reader for me as well.
