VTuber. Eh. I am 90% that it is a guy, but yeah, that isn't Futanari. I watch anime, but there are genres, or rather sub-genres, I avoid.

I'm enjoying Mr Villain's Day Off quite a bit. Similarly, Apothecary Diaries, the Weakest Tamer, Delicious in Dungeon and Frieren all have that same chill slice of life vibe.

As you say, there are thousands of shows in different genres - I'm not into isekai \ ecchi much like I'm not into musicals like Glee or reality TV.

So fans, maybe show us a clip or two of what's considered a really good anime series, let's see if you can change anyone's mind here.
Mostly looks like kinky teenage angst to me

We used to have peeps begging for it on DStv on their forum, but few were interested.
Teenage angst and kink and fight:

I am into mecha, thriller and horror, and the occasional comedy. There have been some incredible drama anime series that have been released. I still re-watch the good old classics.

Monster remains my #1.

I have watched some good French anime too with similar tones.

I've watched the classics, ninja scroll, ghost in the shell and akira but I don't watch anime for the sake of watching anime

the star wars stuff is also pretty good

My wife and I watch anime, it actually forms most of our entertainment media and yes we watch sub. We don't like every anime (we even have genres we tend to avoid like mecha) but we try interesting ones and have a few that end up being shows we watch through the seasons. There's generally better story telling than anything produced recently for traditional TV.

I think there's just more you can get away with, with a drawn format, most anime fans have no desire for these live action remakes but they happen anyway and unfortunately they are usually bad. I think the one piece one was ok but I'm not a one piece fan.

Mecha, only one of the Gundam series was good, this was when I sailed the high seas. Most mecha shows are not good.

Bleach, only from eposode 26 or 29 is good and then only until they rescue Rukia, after that it fell flat quickly. I read the manga for a while.

Naruto, never got to watch Shippuden. It is slow pace and boring.

One piece. The gift that keeps giving. But it is getting long in the tooth and should be wrapped up soon. Fatigue is real. Its going to be like Hajimo ipppo, which started in the 80s and the dude still holding hands with his gf (last I checked).

Beserk: everything weird is covered. Not my cup of tea.

Please note that anime covers the following genre, so depending on what your interests are it could be for you;

Action and adventure will have sub categories like shonen (target young males)

Yaoi is for gays, yuri for the lesbians

Do I look and sound like a Martin to you? I grew up on Robotech, so yeah, I am big on Macross and Patlabor too. Not that big on Gundam. Not mecha per se; it is multi-genre.

PS. I still have Robotech on VHS.

That's from Role Models (2008) - pretty funny comedy with Paul Rudd and co.

I watched Patlabor a long, long time ago...it was good for its time. Haven't watched much mecha stuff since except the Evangelion movies.

Yeah, the genre is the starting point - the show still has to get the writing, animation and tone down. I watched Berserk (1997) a few months back - the animation is dated but it's story and characters hold up. Very Joe Abercrombie.

edit: Forgot about Ghost in the Shell - that's a good example of a series that has mecha in it but the story goes a lot deeper into like existentialism and what it means to be human.

If anyone follows Nerdrotic we all know why Hollywood decided to hate the viewer. I have watched only a few movies or TV shows. I am not into redpill bluepill politics. I want to be entertained.

Anime tells a good story and can truly take you into the past or future unlike modern movies. The artwork itself is art and the stories are good. The only movies I enjoyed was:

Movies:
John Wick [fist one only]
Boss level [was a lot of fun]
Nobody [was a lot of fun]
Alita Battle Angel [It stands on its own and I enjoyed it] Shoutout to Christoph Waltz he played Dr Dyson well.
Constantine [Very good movie] Shoutout to Peter Stormare and Tilda Swinton
V for Vendetta [Very good movie] Shoutout to Hugo Weaving
Matrix [first one only]

TV shows:
Fringe [Shout out to John Noble]
Supernatural [Shoutout to Mark Sheppard]
Constantine

Anime: [in no real order]
Gundam
Cowboy Bebop
Ghost in a shell
Hellsing [Best anime ever]
Appleseed
Devil May Cry,
Spirited Away.
Onepunch man
Skeleton Knight in Another World. [Lot of fun to watch]
Spy X Family
Mashle: Magic and Muscles. [Lot of fun to watch]
