Do you watermark?

I find it detracts from the image so rather put up images with 1000 pixels max on the wide side.

Which for online advertising, or even onscreen (thinking TV), should be plenty for anyone wanting to pilfer your work. :o

It's only print that need the big files and even then upscaling technology is apparently getting pretty good. . .

I don't really care who uses my images, so I wouldn't water mark.
Then why have you copyrighted them all on flickr? You should rather make use of one of the creative commons licenses available.
Soon as my shots become worth stealing i will :o :p
True but I wouldn't really like to see my stuff used to illustrate bad photography either  :D

I like that, think I might do it as well.
How do you do that?
It's added automagically when I export from Aperture but it would also be a simple photoshop action if you have that application at your disposal.

EDIT - the one I actually use isnt nearly so obtrusive - I just created that one for illustrative purposes.

Damn youz!

// Runs off to go watermark them :o

bwana, at work I take a lot of stuff off the web from various sites which we can't afford to buy (eg: vectors - they're expensive sometimes and I do a LOT of vector work every day. ive seen freaken fonts going for 200 dolla!)

I might take a vector, paint the (c) out and stuff, vectorise it, and clean it up a bit.

I can honestly say I will not even ATTEMPT to take that out - that (c) watermark is better than 90% of the sites out there. i'm not saying yours is impossible, but it's gonna take a while....

Good Job on the type of watermark mate. you got brains

:D hehe ... Nice watermark Bwana, I watermark most images and have been very tempted to implement a watermark just like yours for photos uploaded to Facebook.

Watermarking becomes a problem when it distracts your attention from the image and becomes the focal point of your attention instead.

The watermark in your pic Bwana, is a perfect example of watermarking taken to the extreme. I know you overdid the watermark in your pic as an illustration, but some images on the web actually use in-your-face watermarks similar to the one you posted.
When I opened the pic in your example, I was more focused on what was written in the watermark that in the image itself.
I know that people want to protect their artwork, but why bother uploading a pic on the net if you intend destroying your artwork anyway.

This one's a good example of watermarking taken to the extreme:

It depends on which sites I put my work. On Czech sites I almost always watermark my stuff. But as a rule of thumb I feel watermarking is gay and if you do watermark your work you actually think it is good enough to get stolen. Thats a bit vain.

Watermarking individual photos was getting a bit time consuming so I commissioned a mate to engrave (etch?) the watermark onto a UV filter.

The filters are a little expensive but since I dont really use them for anything else I'm not too phased by it.

:P
