Whats a decent solution for document storage and management? Mostly to do with document scans and files created by Pastal. Must have a decent search function. I would prefer a FOSS solution.

I came across this:
http://www.opendocman.com

However it looks pretty terrible, and I am not sure how functional it is. Anyone got experience with this?

Not sure about the "decent" part or if compatible with pastels format but have you looked at google docs?

Im not sure that will work for what I have in mind. We are going to be dealing with terabytes to petabytes of information. I think it will all want be be kept onsite.

Are you looking for something for work ie. your firm's documents etc. or is it for home?

Reason for asking is that I have been searching for a home solution (as an engineer I also have several scans, documents and spreadsheet that I have collected and developed over the years, and to find someone often requires significant effort and memory-jogging :D

At one firm where I worked we used SmartPlant Foundation, it is a suite of software and the particular DMS (document management system) was reasonably effective. It basically creates a database with metadata for each document, offers revision control, login-based access, check-in / check-out style user interface etc. It was quite expensive though I recall.

If you are interested I could put you in touch with the system administrator, I am sure he would be able to point you in the right direction.

If it is for a home application (and its free/low-cost) please let me know I would definitely be interested in helping you test-driving it!
