I was looking at requirements on the home affairs website and what the priest sent me.

Which one is correct?

Home affairs :
If a foreign national is marrying a South African citizen, they should both present their valid passports as well as well as a completed BI-31 Form (Declaration for the Purpose of Marriage, Letter of no impediment)

Priest :
• If one of both the prospective spouses are not South African citizens, a letter of consent provided by the country of origin as well as a letter of authorisation from the SA Department of Home Affairs. Also certified copies of passports with clear visa and residential details, as well as stamps that indicate the period of visiting South Africa.

The priest are requesting quite a few more documents ,than what home affairs are requesting?

My fiance was born in Scotland and has a British passport. She does have a green I.D book ,says on there none s.a citizen.

Can I get the BI-31 form online and just print it? Or should I go fetch it at home affairs rather.

I'd go with Home Affairs.

Your form:

Listen to Home Affairs, they register your marriage, the priest is an irrelevant figurehead.

You can't print HA forms for certain things anymore and have to go fetch them in person, not sure if relevant in this case. Just call HA, they're very helpful.

Great will do so.

Thank you :P

This form you should be able to use your own printed copy.

That^^^^ is the issue, from the HA website... With my hoop jumping I'm currently doing for them all my forms are bar-coded and carbon-papered and you have to have originals.

Nothing at all to do with what the OP is doing but I've no idea how far these new forms go, as I said it's best to call them.

Ok it seems I need to get prove that my fiance is not married in scotland first. Then go to home affairs and they will make an appointment for us to be interviewed etc.

It is quite easy to get the document ,you print a letter from gov.uk website and go to the local police station to get a sworn affidavit that the person is not married.

Hi, I am currently in the same situation and just wondered if this process worked out for you? I thought since they had a permanent residency and SA ID it wasn’t necessary for the interview. Also did your wife get the letter of no impediment from the embassy? Thanks

This was not nessary after all. They told us when we went to home affairs. We had no problems registering the marriage.
