On 13 July I used my credit card and paid R2200 for an uncapped 1024k line from OpenWeb. On 1 August, they cut my DSL line and demanded another R2199 for August. I have therefore lost 13 days. I find this to be very unfair. So later that day I signed up with ODS who Do charge pro rata for signing in the middle of the month. Good boys ODS.

WebAfrica use exactly the same trick.

You think you're buying a top-up (pay as you go) account and then when you look again you've just purchased the wrong thing.

What gets me is that when you explain the situation to these leeches, and they can see the evidence in your usage pattern, they still refuse to see the light.

I therefore no longer use WebAfrica, and I will now never use OpenWeb either.

Simple.

Well I messed up my WA account quite badly by adding services incorrectly and they assisted me in getting it sorted out. They provided great customer service and I was very impressed.

I'm sure when I signed up with WA I bought a normal 3GB account and only later did I recognise that I hadn't bought a prepaid. I'm pretty sure they switched the account to prepaid for me.

Well drugs or no drugs...i've bought a 1GB prepaid local from Webafrica for the last 3 days of July via cc.When i want to buy another couple of local gigs today...guess what? I was already billed for another gig.

I didn't sign up for any monthly ****.

That's similar to what happened to me Biggie.

My WebAfrica usage runs something like this [Exact figures these are NOT!]:
23 May - 09 th of June = about 2.5GB
23 June - 09 th of July = about 2.5GB

I had paid for 2 months of usage, and was in debt for an EXTRA MONTH. My usage pattern made it quite clear that I was under the wrong impression, but they refused to see it that way. I paid the "extra month", felt ripped off, and will not go back.

Goodluck with that my son.

Goodluck with that ODS are illegaly advertising without vat. See: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=82775

"All of the Online Digital Solutions Usage based ADSL solutions are run on the SAT-3 cable which offers high reliability as well as low latency and the best speed possible. All accounts can either be put into the plus plan or top-up at any time. To order an account or have a tailor made solution please email [email protected] or call 011 285-0002. All price are quoted exclusive of VAT." - http://www.ods.co.za/Services/connectivity_adsl.asp (bottom of the screen as disclaimer).

Also enjoy going with an ISP who constantly seems to have "prize draws" yet never reveals results of these said draws etc.

Enjoy you and your lot would be good with them. Don't try to give a good company a bad name because you are to inept to read.

You pay for the service at the beginning of the month. If you purchase something halfway through the month, then, guess what, you only have half a month left to use it. It's actually quite simple and logical if you think about it

NO ALCHEMIST. It's not logical. If you purchase 3GB; you expect to be able to use 3GB.

You are implying that it's ok for the petrol to disappear from my car at month end.

This fiasco is caused by Teklom, and most ISP's have provided separate facilities where they provide an alternative.
However, it is not always clear exactly what you are purchasing.

OpenWeb Terms and conditions:

4.13 Payment of your account is due on the 27th of each month, paid in advance for the following months access. Accounts purchased within a month, will only last until the end of the month it was purchased in.

It is clearly stated, no dodgyness or Tricks or stealing of Bandwidth.

Yes it is, please go be retarded elsewhere, either read the t+c's or shutup. I'm sick and tired of inept people bitching because they could / would / did not read/ do their homework.

It was clearly shown to you on billing/ by people working for openweb/tons of forumites here.

Lol@jsheed
If reading these posts gets you all upset, then rather don't.

One would swear that you were just told by your boss to work the whole weekend. :D

BTW, what has openweb done for you?

Meh , I work for a bank and I get tons of these idiots telling me they didnt sign up for xyz and then you fwd them a copy of contract and theyre like oh wow, im sorry i phoned and bitches at your for countless hours.

Very well put.

Openweb have given me the capability to download local :) and helped me out when webafrica buggered up with my account and it was unusable, and the service is way better than I've had from either telkom or mweb.

What's wrong with insisting on a more user friendly approach?

Hows about:
- Name the package appropriately and standardize on the naming convention.
e.g. 3 GB ADSL
e.g. 3 GB ADSL Expires Month End
e.g. 3 GB ADSL Monthly Renewal

Na .. too easy.

Lets see : OpenWeb, you click on ORDER NOW. Then you click on Terms of Use [Page not found], then you click on Privacy Policy[Not Found]. Bleugh.
Nobody's perfect.

You could have fooled us :)

I'm very surprised WA wouldn't help you out on this one as they are usually extremely understanding and helpful.

The same thing happened when I signed up with Telkom. I had to pay for the full month, even though I was only getting half a months worth. So I made sure I used every byte due to me for the month.

A lot of ISP's work this way. Although it's not really fair, unfortunately its up to us to make sure of their policy before signing up.
