Does anybody have xperience with both BBerry & iPhone?

Hi there,

I am leanin more towards the bberry but each forum you check has a clear bias between iphone vs bberry.. i understand much comes down to what you want to do with the phone but in areas like stability, toughness, ease of use and applications available, which is better?

Stability - My blackberry is more stable than my iPhone - however both rock in this regard.
Toughness - I wouldnt choose to drop either.
Ease of use - Its easier for me to type an email out on my blackberry with the keyboard.
Applications - iPhone wins this hands down.

I mostly use my iphone when I'm at home due to Vodacom's data rates. My blackberry costs r59 per month for as much data as I need.

I could live without my iPhone.
 
I've owned a BB Bold and a Storm and now I have an iPhone. There's nothing bad about the Bold - its integration with MS Exchange is the best in class but with the iPhone's ability to use OWA it works almost as well. I would say never touch the Storm - biggest disappointment ever and makes RIM look like a bunch of fools. Of all of them, my iPhone does everything I need it to and is the only mobile phone that you can really use a browser on (try doing internet banking on a BB - it's not nearly as easy.

At the end of the day, this is completely about personal preference. I've had both and prefer the iPhone...
 
I used to have an iphone, but now I have a blackberry 8900 and a 32gig ipod touch.

The iphone is a great multimedia device, but the 8900 is a much better phone. However, in terms of mobile internet the blackberry really sucks, while the iphone is an amazing internet device.

Blackberry 8900 beats the iphone in terms of the following: keyboard, email, camera
Iphone beats the blackberry in terms of: multimedia, large screen, internet

Also, my iphone used to drop calls, have connectivity issues from time to time. Nothing like that with the berry
 
I have both, love both, but the BB serves me best day-to-day, easier to make calls and message, loads of shortcuts using the keyboard, one-click access to the things i need most, plus the unlimited internet and BB messenger (A lot of my contacts use BB too) make it hard to leave the BB. My phone bill came way down on a BB package since i no longer use sms and i'm not being charged those ridiculous data rates.

It was a nightmare while the vodacom service was slow but it seem mostly better now.

iphone is more fun, more powerful and more intersting to play with but for me doesn't quite hack it day-to-day, with a bb i don't even have to look at the screen half the time to know where i am, great one-handed device for when i'm on the move.

Had an iphone, have a bold at the moment. Like the bb more than i did the iphone, but i am trying to sell the bb to try out the android.

I agree with bwana, the keyboard makes it very nice to type mails!
 
do you guys think your preference for the bb is due to the more purpose driven direction your handset takes? When you younger it's all about mp3 and camera capability but with more responsibility and pressure to deliver the bb proves to be a more 'mature' approach?

iPhone is a great toy with an app store loaded with gimmick-apps. BlackBerry is far more functional and useful, as are high end WinMo devices.
 
Yes the bb is more of a focussed device, the iphone really is an amazing gadget, I disagree that its a toy, its very powerful especially when jailbroken (and much better than winmo devices imho - I've owned several winmo phones and they all sucked) but the bb wins out in a utilitarian way, it's fairly boring but it gets the job done very efficiently. If you're more into gaming and the media functions then iphone wins in that department.
 
i still dont see the allure of a black berry ... Besides email (my n97 i think is a very capable device for email, how is the bb better?) ... What is this phone good at doing that other phones can not do? Looking at the spec sheet its sub par compared to many other phones on the market and just on an aesthetics point of view, it is a rather ugly looking phone ... Im due for an upgrade on my second sim and need to also decide what to get. But right now it seems many blackberry owners adore their phones and i just cant understand it ... So enlighten me :)

My wife has a BB and the big drawing card for her was the BIS. I must say though, the more I use her phone, the more I appreciate my HTC.

Rock solid OS, fantastic email/messaging, and unlimited access for r59. Looking back I dont think I've ever crashed my phone.

The form factor might be ugly (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) but it does the job perfectly.

that is exactly my position? but then agian stability does count for alot and after having my HTCs crash more than CT drivers on a rainy morning a phone that really works is a blessing. I've also researched several apps for bberry and those available does pull the bberry out of the 'boring' space into somethign a tad more interesting, not iPhone level but decent nonetheless.
 
i'm done with HTC Izak, I have no confidence of a stable phone and I have literally lost thousands on downtime and inconvenience when the HTC decides to play up and leaf is just a waste of time.
 
Weird, which HTC's have you had. I had the little s710 and now have the Touch Diamond 2 - haven't had any issues with either of them.
 
BB Curve 8900 and iPhone 3G

1. Usability - iphone wins hands down.
2. Texting/Emailing - BB wins hands down.
3. OS Stability and Programs - no contest here, iphone by a LONG shot. The BB is unstable, the shop is the most pitiful excuse for software you have come accross.
4. Durability - BB wins here, although i dropped my iphone alot and it was fine, the BB just feels stronger.
5. Battery Life - Debatable, iphone was down to 2 days, BB is down to 2 days. However the BB went from 5 days to 2 days in under 4 months of usage.
6. Music/Entertainment - do i really need to call this one? its blatantly obvious :)
7. Internet Access - BB = RUBBISH WITH A CAPITAL R :) I've never seen something so slow in my life. Its faster to haul out my anicent Samsung with GPRS and browse. iPhone's 3G works perfectly, and it was fast.

Yes, the BB gives you "unlimited" internet but thats like JHb Water offering you unlimited water for a fee, and you get 1 drop per 5 minutes. Is it really worth it? NO.

So, in conclusion, when this BB is old, bust or stolen I shall be going back to iPhone again. No contest for me there. BB is an awesome phone, awesome concept but in SA its just implemented like rubbish.
