Hi guys, im trying to find the best solution for my sister at UCT.

She will use it mostly for research in her honours degree and maybe a little bit of skype.

There is a Yfi hotspot in her flat complex, but there is no rates advertised on their web site and i find that to be a little bit dodgy.
I also do not want to put credit card details into some dodgy web site.

Can anyone share experiences on Yfi or any solution, as cheap as possible. fixed or wireless.

at the moment it seems that it might be the cheapest just buying MTN data bundles and connecting through her phone's 3g modem. Am I correct with this?
Her budget would be maximum R200 p/month.
regards

@ gatecrasher .

This post is not only about yfi, but a complete package suggestion.
Also a rate is only a rate if they say for instance R50/250 megs.

There is no data information on the website.

Anyone with something to contribute instead of getting smart?

If you go with the 3g option. I think it would be better to get 2gb per 2months, as you have 60 days to use the bundle. I think that would be the cheapest option. YFI looks a little bit doggy to me, as they have no prices of usage.

Also, speed wise, if she has a HSDPA cellphone, then she is really going to benefit from the speed.

Hi Guys

@heynnow I totally disagree with you on that, YFI service are more than great. Been using YFI for more than 8 months now and I must say I happy with their services and their fast connection. I even use them when I travel around.
Users are charged per MB used and not time spent on the network. These are ways an options to get online with them if you too scared to use your credit card:
Billing is done via:
ØPurchasing a voucher at any YFi outlet, http://yfi.co.za/voucheroutlets
ØBuy credits on-line with any credit card,
ØEFT options available

All their Hotspots work on an separate billing system depending whether be at a restuarant or block of flats (most of their hotspots are charged at 30c/MB, where else do you get that cos even for a 3G modem you pay over 90c/MB). Credits bought are reflected as a number. ( example: R 30 -00 for 3000 credits) The billing rate per hotspot gets set on the amount of credits per MB used. Rates differ between RSA and Namibia (Example: 1MB = 30 credits and/or second site could be 1MB =50credits) Individual billing rate are set for every hotspot.

You can even call their remote support 24/7 call centre, they very helpful and efficient. YFi Credits can be used at any Y-fi Hotspot in South Africa and any place in the world where YFi networks are available, User Credits only expire after 48 months, No contracts, monthly charges or Debit orders
ØOnly top up when you run out of credits
User gets 500 credits via SMS free upon sign up
Cost effective and reliable

Contact them here( [email protected]) or 0861 086 934

I dig them a lot
