does changing HDD void your warrentee?

Hi Guys,

Just want to get some opinions on this,

If I upgrade my HDD to a bigger one, would that void the warrentee?

according to this site, from samsung themselves,

its allowed, but what has your experience been?

I can understand a macbook pro or any other niche product, but a bog standard samsung? is that even legal?

Even with Apple products (besides retina and air) the HDD and RAM are user-replaceable so there no need to worry about voiding the warranty as long as it's just either of those two things you are changing.

thats exactly what I thought, there is a space for replacement, why now tell me BS about warrentee?
am I the first to get this BS story before?
 
Acer included a huge instruction sheet on replacing/upgrading the ram - literally, screw cover off, popout ram, replace, screw cover back on - yet Acer SA were adamant it voids the entire laptop warranty, and could not provide reason for providing instructions for something that voids the warranty.

They also wanted 500% more than the actual cost of the ram to do it themselves.

yet another brand I will never buy again! Fujitsu/seimens another I heard about

thing that bugs me is Im not the only one with problem, while I was in the queue another laptop, same issue, same model.
and interwebs all talking about this problem, the UEFI bug on Samsung laptops, that they suddently borked if you try anything not right for win 8:sick:

but my question is it legal?

If you keep the old HDD, you could put it in the laptop.before taking it in, should there ever be a problem...
 
They say if laptop do not have externally accessible HDD pocket like Series 9, warranty will be void because accessing hard drive requires dismantling laptop.

What is in your case? If you are unlucky, I suggest do little bit maintenance and move all unnecessary stuff to the external drive. :)

Thats what I did, eventually after "balancing on Samsung tech's Head":D
, they agreed to fix my machine under warranty

only after I said no to replacement of M/B and HDD for a quote of R3.5K which is the cost of a new laptop

thing is, is this even legal? what does a bigger HDD have to do with warranty claims?

this is the series 3 with the easily accessible pocket, so no BS here!

is this just to see who they can squeeze?
 
Right, then don't think about reinstalling OS as suggested on the WEB site, just clone existing drive to the new one. :)

I can do it for you, just leave the old one with me, hehe...

next time ill just clone and live with less disk space

no after I put in my original HDD they finally agree to repair my laptop by changing M/B becuse of their dumb firmware

I think its a new sales technique ive seen recently, see if you compalin and then fix it,
if you pay then great money for mahala! if not then oh well a sucker born every day......
 
As in your case you don't lose warranty by changing hard drive, you don't need to keep the old one. It is why my offer is fair. Nice try - if you like, I don't bother, I will do it for you even you take the old one back, but I didn't tell you that, as you would suspect some kind of 'interest'.

BTW, What is size of the old one? :)

Like I said nice try :D My HDD is perfect working order for now at least;)

my old one is a 750GB but the one my unit was shipped with was a 320 GB one, they threw a tatrum on it saying its not original and what not, so cant help you!

hopefully gonna get it back and will see what I get this time, but my want to cover myself in case they try another BS story, telling me its covered under goodwill replacement, and other corparate BS, and you need to pay X amount extra to get MY laptop back .

thats what I thought, this has an opening, and a screw, and a guide explaining how to do it,
should be perfectly legal?

my question is WTF are they on about voided warranty and such! anyody else get this BS story from Samsung?
