Does my motherboard support Core 2 duo?

This may sound like a stupid question but I'm not sure. It's a Biostar lga 775 and it says it support dual core but I'm not sure if that means Pentium D or Intel Core 2 Duo.
 
I'm not sure I'll have to check. By the way do you have a good price for 1G Ddr2 533 ram?
 
At the moment my business is in suspend mode till I get into the groove of this new job, but I would have been selling it at R490...

Need to model name/nr so I can tell you if it is core 2 capable...

anything that can handle a dual core can handle core 2

buy the cpu pop it in and see, if it does not work go buy a new mobo

that is very bad advice.

intel 945 and 955 chipset couldnt do core2 but can do dual core. early 975 chipset based boards also couldnt handle this.

hence, the reason we now have 946 and 965.

same goes for sis and via, there are specific core2 capable versions.
 
thats fsb bus suggests it will support it but i cant find anything on that board

well gigabyte's low middle and high end could support core 2 even if it was old, so i dont see why this would not unless its an old mobo

i remember when core 2 came out, all rectron and other suppliers where doing was putting a core 2 sticker on the box's and it worked

if i'm not mistaken, it's not the entirely dependant on the chipset, the chipset must just be able to run at the required FSB.

The main thing that determines C2D compatability is some electrical requirement on the board itself, not the chipset. For example there are some mobo's with ancient 865 chipsets that have been adapted to C2D specs...

you're talking about the vrm regulators (specifically, they need to support v11 of the vrm spec). yes, that is a good point.
the fact is though, when these chipsets were in circulation, instead of doing a respin of the board intel brought out the 965 and 946 and marketed them as "the" core2 chipsets. other manufacturers carried on using the "old" ich7 based chipsets and upgraded to vrm11. the fact is, there are more than many boards out there that supports dual core, yet wont work with core2

to the OP, the p4m800 from biostart is ok for core2.
the onboard graphics dont work well with vista (dvd stuttering with the microsoft decoder) and this was fixed with p4m900

Thanx for the info, and I have a FX5500GT graphics card so I guess that would combat the dvd stuttering. On that topic is it a big job replacing a power supply cause I'm in the market for a cheap new graphics card like the Geforce 7600gs 512mb and most places say you need at least a 400W PSU for something like that. My current PSU is only 350W.
 
Depends on how many other components you have, should be fine with 350W if you only have 1 or 2 Hdd's etc.
