does Shell garages accept debit cards?

In the old days they used to take your spare tyre if you couldnt pay, then give it back if you eventually pay. With petrol prices today ill happily give away my spare tyre for a full tank!!:p:p
 
Last time I checked none of the garages in EL accepted debit cards. Which is bloody silly.
