Does smash and grab film actually work?

Everyone I know has this stuff, but I don't hear any reliable stories about how it actually saved anyone. Apart from the tint, is it actually worth installing?
 
How is it supposed to "save anyone"? It's not an airbag or a seatbelt, all it does it prevents someone from, well, doing a quick smash-and-grab. You know, smash the window with something metallic with a sharp point and grab whatever is in the car. It's not going to stop bullets, it's not going to stop multiple impacts or knifes, etc. etc.
 
The think I like about the smash and grab film on my car is that it tints my windows - which makes seeing inside the car more difficult.
 
It better work!!!! :mad: I am having mine installed next Friday by Glasfit.

I know that it will break eventually if the person keeps hitting the window with a object, but if I had this when my smash and grab happened my car would not have been damaged two weeks ago :(. I was at a red robot with no traffic. I could literally have just sped off safely when the first strike hit.

The tint also protects you from the sun. I can feel a massive difference in heat on my arms if I open my window compared to when it is closed.
 
Any tint works...

The glass shatters but does not explode into a thousand pieces. Similar to a shutter proof windscreen. The pieces are held together by the film. So it gives you time to act instead of your window exploding and they reach in. Don't be fooled by the R 3 000 smash and grab. R 250 tint next to the road works exactly the same.

The difference is that proper tint lasts, and doesn't bubble after a year or two like the stick-on stuff they cut with a box cutter next to the road.

I can imagine. Glasfit said they unfortunately need the car at their premises and cant do it with a mobile unit as you cant install the film where there might be dust etc settling on the glass. Needs to be clean.

I can understand that completely, to be honest, and I would say that if you want to put it on, you need to take the punch and park your car there for the time it takes.

I meant has it saved anyone's handbag, cellphone, wallet etc. from being stolen? The reason I ask is that almost all cars these days seem to have this installed, yet there are still smash and grab hotspots.

Does anyone have any first hand experience where this has actually worked to prevent a smash and grab robbery?

Nah, lots and lots of cars don't have it.
